Sharing ripped breakbeats

Post by Mordi »

I've come into the habit of writing down tunes that have drums-only sections in them, so that I can rip them for use in other projects. Primarily breakbeats from the 60's/70's and 80's. I go through and somewhat quantize them and make them as loopable as I can. This includes ripping from Bernard Purdie, Tower of Power, Toto, Average White Band and many others.

Would this be wildly illegal to share this with people? Perhaps its even illegal to even do this in the first place.

It would be inadvisable to share it publicly, yes (or to release tracks commercially which used the samples). As usual, what you do in the privacy of your own home is nobody's business!
Won't somebody PLEASE think of the children?
