....Whoa, no it isn't.

http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/lot-of-80-78- ... 7675.l2557

80 great 78s for just £20, inc. postage? Rock the joint, mate. Reminds me of the once-huge hauls of shellac discs for just a few coins in the junk shops. But I think over time the crap ones were thrown away and the better ones kept by more folk, ramping prices up.

Might top it off with this, but may not: http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/CLIFF-RICHARD ... 0415440%26

Definitely not. Must get a couple more styli:

These are for my 45s, for reference: http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/New-Replaceme ... 2c6d5eb45d

Damned expensive, even though the cheapy cart above is actually just about as good as the 510: http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Ortofon-Stylu ... 2eb51f3af6

And something at 16 rpm:

Though I'm OK already, as I have an Italian electric shuffle band one to keep me going.

Though the newspapers can also pick up on a few interesting slots.

A Japanese reproduction of Yesterday And Today, complete with alternate and bootleg mixes. Funky.

And for the fan who wants everything, the US Hard Day's Night is also up there. May get that next week.

And if they're official releases, the quality should be top notch. Though I do wonder why the Asians should have all the novelties.

Though there's one last juicy gem:

Bootleg album on vinyl. And some other booties:

Just type in things like BEATLES RARE CD and plenty pops up. No back street foraging any more and splendid complements to the Beatle studio books.

Owning the video collections, all the way back to number one, lets you avoid the record rumble and tape hiss because of the hifi soundtracks which VHS had.

VHS Certainly captured the SID sound better than tape, and quite often the TVs had bigger speakers too, which was cool (at least, better than the built in ones on tape decks).

Aah, the old days.

Hifi had a lovely crisp FM soundtrack. It wasn't digital, as even some video boxes get wrong. Which probably accounts for a rich, full fidelity that the home digitals hadn't arrived at just yet.

I heard tell it was roughly equivalent to 16 bit, 32 khz PCM, or Minidisc, so you had a lot of bandwidth for SID to fill. And the large elliptical telly speakers would have done a bang-up job for the age of pumping that sound out. Unless you were an early adopter of running line-out through the hifi or rigging a home studio.

You want a Mellotron.

Image

http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Mellotron-M40 ... 41742c0d8b

A 1960s tape-based keyboard instrument is bound to go for a humungus asking price. I'll just have to make do with the software, tape deck and the adverts I'm afraid.

Image

http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/1973-MELLOTRO ... 53f9eb8893

S'pose it must go well with drugs, though Traffic claimed this wasn't written under any.

Image

I think it sounds pretty good. Well, they do use Mellotron samples.

https://sites.google.com/site/artifakelabs/

Looks like they updated it: http://synth.me/music-gear/redtronse-v1 ... ulator-vst

Also free: http://www.premiersoundfactory.com/modu ... r-p-3.html

Though these guys charge: http://www.audiowarrior.com/KONTAKT.TRON.html

Aaaah the mellotron. An awesome instrument way ahead of its time. Famous use of the mellotron choir: The intro of New Order's Blue Monday.

Yeah. As much the hippy sound as the sitar at one point.

And just look at all these other goodies, both expensive and cheap. I promised not to spend my remaining electricity rebate on frivolity and novelty but it could be hard going.....

http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/50-BLANK-CASS ... 0854516038

Handy stuff though, as it's irony indeed to transfer from disc to tape. Tape's still available new: http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/BASF-90-Chrom ... 4516038%26

And I'm surprised nobody bid for this breadbox and carton:

Machine and drive about £180, postage too, if remaining at the starting bid.

I can even afford that unsellable black beauty, sold at a cut price now if I recall:

Aaaaah.

But I got the money now. I should focus on the money.

DANGNABBIT.

I was outbid by just twelve quid. For the first time I could afford something like this at the right price.

http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Otari-MTR10-q ... 232c684e4a

But at least I've still got the money. So I'm still happy.
