Town and Studio colour photograph album

From digital camera SD card to Commodore 64: http://www.Leftiness.org/CAMERA.D64

Pictures of my home studio, street scenes and a van conveniently set on fire by my house a few months back.

The C64 should have had photo graphic tools more widely available in its day. The VIC can handle photo graphics better than I dared imagine.

My pics are a little more realistic than the ones produced by the browser linked-to by LMan. Run the Autograph picture viewer to look at the snaps.

If anybody would like me to put their own snaps on a C64 photo disk image, attach them below.

Do Your Own COMMODORE 64 COLOUR PHOTO GRAPHICS

Post by Commie_User »

OCP Art Studio version: http://www.Leftiness.org/ALBUM.D64

Load the program, click the mouse and view the pics. I prefer OCP to Koala as it's a more serious WYSIWYG program and looks the part too.

Someone else's picture, though not from the C64 version.

It's nice to pattern-fill areas of photograph, zoom and just basically enjoy my out-of-date workstation.

I also like the way it tracks in a picture in grayscale before splashing in the colour. And it seems a pity there were never photo albums commercially available to load in.

I used to "play" with Art Studio in my childhood. Example:

That's fantastic Lman. Any chance of uploading a disk or two so we can all have a look? I never did as much as that with my copy.

Once you've run and selected your micro-managed printer options, the main executable of the program is supposed to operate (which it doesn't). Also on disk image are my own symbol fonts, wash-fill patterns, guide picture and these very photographs.

Oh well, might as well go mad on it for while. I wanted my photos on the 64 for so long now, way past the point of being much use.

Though one photo-esque picture I quite like is a picture from the unfinished Flashback game: http://www.gtw64.co.uk/Pages/f/Review_Flashback

(And while we're on it, check out the great music on this one: http://www.gtw64.co.uk/Pages/f/Review_FearsOfDarkness

This one's beautiful, though repetitive: http://www.gtw64.co.uk/Pages/f/Review_Firebird )

It's brilliant having what seems a privileged peek back in time at peoples' old development disks. Years ago I think I had some come into my possession. But unfortunately, not realising how significant they could be, I wiped them as junk and recorded over them.

Still, marvellous downloading these ones and loading them into my 64, everything running as smoothly as they would have done two decades or more back.

And here, apparently, is an easy photo converter for Amiga and Atari ST: http://computingvoyage.com/1012/creatin ... -the-gimp/

For converting to the Amiga anyway, it's pure sh*t, poncing about with colours and renaming the file extension only to find Deluxe Paint won't touch it. So much for the 'tutorial', though it can save to a variety of other formats. (Presumably it's the same on the Atari.)

Luckily I have Paint Shop Pro and can save my photos to .IFF files directly in there. Then port them to disk image in Amiga Forever (assigning a new 'hard drive' as whatever folder). Or port them to a real Amiga down the serial.

Free and simple after all these years. Mind, the real magic for me is having them on the 64 in all their grainy goodness.

Lastly...

Image

8-bit digital imaging 1985-style. No webcam yet but these were fine for novelty snapshots and video recording to tape. It did for basic photo DTP at home, though once your printed cuts were laid to master you still needed the photocopier at the local library.

Image

The buds were truly blooming even 25 years ago. The Amiga Toast realtime effects board came just two years on, killing the need for pro workstation rental by another of history's thousand cuts.

Image

And at least this is plenty to read when I have to be elsewhere.

Largely useless even here. But the segue between domestic PCs being toys and proper appliances made things really exciting.

And what about art? I'm truly impressed that photo-realistic/enhanced artwork could be churned out so early away from a pro terminal.

Image

Image

Even I forget just how good the old computers were. (Maybe because at the time I wasn't inquisitive in tech further than domestic stereo, VCRs or Atari VCS.)

http://www.leftiness.org/Record.htm

Over time image scanners came out, the Commodore porn scene flourished and the Amiga took care of early video. All tied together by bulletin board availability. And just as ordinary people were aware of the real advances, the IBM PC stole the show with its Internet, Windows 3.1/95/98 and being able to use your machine for proper video recording.

Oh look, the floppy disk: http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Computereyes- ... 5648ee341c

Sadly no hardware. Nice advertised graphics converter and Print Shop compatibility. In-the-box DTP to echo the Mac then?

Image

I'll have a download later: http://ftp.pokefinder.org/index.php?s=c ... &m=0&h=100

The Atari 800XL. Not so much of a toy now is it?

There's also a natty image conversion utility which can also handle Computereyes pictures and popular bitmap formats. This goes above the Action Replay image capture as hires and others are also supported and convertible, including GEOS format.

Magic in 'them days'. Especially as the older the TV, the less flickery the interlacing.

The game and cracktro noise is worth a sample too: http://noname.c64.org/csdb/release/?id=57665

Thank you very much. Early micros are all the more fascinating when looking at what the pioneers did with cameras or samplers. I'm happy I conveyed some of the magic.

And I watched the clock roll over the magic mark just now and it's 1000 views well spent!

Though you do also ask sometimes, is that a photo or a very good painting?
