It would of been a lot cheaper and FAR better if Timbaland would of hired MR J TEL to sprinkle some funky 64 soundage over his track  Plus it might of been a bigger hit as well :)

I can't believe he fricken sampled a C64 / Amiga track when you could of paid the best 64 Musician..
"sorry joint best with MR Hubbard"£5,000 or so to record some serious original 64 sound on his fricken record..... :bash:

Paul :)

OK, here's the news on the case: the court screwed up royally.

Basically, GRG's side was making three claims (sampling, performance rights, producer rights). The court only ruled on one of them (performance rights, whether the SID was sufficiently different to the Amiga version to justify authorship rights - they said no), ignored the two important ones and threw the case out: which means the court just decided not to even rule whether it was a sample or not: so they ignored the most important facet of the case.

So, now it's back to the court of appeal to get it straightened out, since this is an obvious legal error. So, nothing to see here, nothing to see...

Indeed. Best guess is that the judges didn't feel up to thinking about the issues, made the easiest decision they could make, and punted the rest into the long grass for someone else to deal with.

This is indeed a sad turn of events. However, I still hope that the truth will prevail at court.

Who knows where some cash flows, behind the scenes, to make things easier for the power people.

Don't misunderstand: this isn't really a victory for anyone. It's an obvious legal clusterf*ck that just needs to be remedied. If they had ruled against sampling, that would be sad. But they didn't even make a decision on that.

In the end perhaps this has helped raise awareness of C64 SID music....

I'd love to have seen Stone Oakvalley there at the trial with his wacky setup explaining SID technology and authenticity to the judges. :hysterical:

IMHO those judges lost it after the first three pages of the case... everything else seemed to be rocket science to them.
I hope the next jury will have more competent people at the start.

For whatever it is worth I have today started lobbying within the Swedish Pirate Party and in the Swedish blogosphere for acknowledging this scandalous behaviour of Timbaland in regards to Gallefoss. Hopefully it will cause some turmoil and some bad press for Timbaland and Universal.

My blog post on the matter (alas only in Swedish):

Cheers!

Just wanted to add a brief update.

So far the forementioned blog-post has had about 400...got interrupted by a phone-call and now it is 450 unique visitors.

At the time being it has been linked by 6 other bloggers (most are political) and among them last year's winner of the Swedish Blog Prize:

Another update before I hit the sack.

600+ visits on the post.

About 10 or so blogs have jumped on the bandwagon and linked to my initial post. Among them are, as mentioned before, last year's winner of the Swedish Blog Prize and now also the vice leader of the Pirate Party, Anna Troberg:

The main blogg hub in Sweden is not yet updated with the most recent activity but for anyone interested in following up on the development this might be a good place to check:

Time to sleep...

Cheers!

Thanks a lot for the cheering! :)

You are spot on and that is part of the beauty of lovely lady Internet. ;)

Holy s**t! I had to check the stats on my blog-post and while I was sleeping things have been "going on" so to say. The today stats are already closing in on 300! I have also received a few comments providing tips and expressing their support and intentions on trying to spread the info on this scandalous behaviour of Timbaland's.

Cheers!

P.S. Anyone that has got an idea on a catchy named Facebook-group and/or the ability to create a nice piece of graphics matching the purpose (if so, avoid pictures of Timbaland as Facebook is a bit picky on using people's photos)? Slacktivism FTW! :) D.S.
