Symphonic Shades now on CD

Symphonic Shades From maz-sound.com:

Now on CD: On August 23rd, at the WDR-Funkhaus in Cologne, legendary video game music by Chris Huelsbeck was performed in an all-new shape, including classics of the C64- and Amiga-homecomputer era such as The Great Giana Sisters, R-Type and Turrican. The minimalist computer sounds of the original songs were rearranged for orchestra and choir by demoscene legend Jonne Valtonen (aka Purple Motion / Future Crew).

Tiny 8-bit samples or pulse width modulated square waves became violins, contrabasses, flutes, clarinettes, horns, trumpets and grand piano. Envelope controlled noise became drums, timpani, cymbals, triangles ... even pottery mugs. And the handful of simultaneously playable voices of the C64 and Amiga computers turned into arrangements for 120 musicians of orchestra and choir. The songs were performed by the musicians of the WDR Radio Orchestra Cologne and the FILMharmonic Choir Prague, conducted by Grammy-winning artist Arnold Roth.

In the first month after the release, the CD will be available in the shop of www.maz-sound.com exclusively. It can be ordered as of now at the price of 22,00 Euro, expected release date is December 17th.

New revolutionary C64 music routine unveiled

Sounddemon THCM & Mixer From C64Music! Blog:
A team of supertalented coders have managed to break the limits of C64 sound once again.

The Human Coding Machine from Germany and SounDemoN from Finland, have managed to create a music routine that allows you to have:

- 4 channels of 8-bit samplerate, digi playback
- 2 channels of SID synth sound
- You can filter both SID channels AND SAMPLES!
- And you have enough rastertime to not being forced to turn off the screen, and can actually do something with it

Check out the demo track Fanta in Space. So far it seems that emulators are not able to handle the sound routine.

CLASSIC GAMING papermag in german shelves

CLASSIC GAMING The PC ACTION magazine has issued a special edition titled Classic Gaming. You can't miss it in the magazine shelves because the front cover shows the original Giana Sisters artwork. It contains articles about retro games, consoles and home computers.

There's a huge article about Giana Sisters, looking in detail at the original and the official Giana Sisters 2 for Nintendo DS. There are various interviews, for example with Armin Gessert, The Bitmap Brothers, and Chris Hülsbeck.

For bonus, there's a DVD with 6 retro PC games and a c64 emulator with 99 games.

The editorial states that there will be follow-up magazines, if the sales justify it. So go grab your copy if you can. :-)

New CD by Jogeir Liljedahl

From the website:

A full 9 years after the release of his debut CD, The Wanderer, comes the next highly awaited album from Jogeir Liljedahl.

Aptly titled Out of Silence, the album is a melodic/electronic music feast from beginning till end, with uplifting melodies, sparkling chords, typical Jogeir style wonderful bass lines, and with additional guitar appearances by Øyvind Vik.

This album also features a guest appearance by Chris Hülsbeck who co-wrote the track Graveness & Romantics with Jogeir, and by Fabian del Priore who also took part in co-composing and arranging some of the tracks.

This album is released as a download only album. You can buy the full album in 256-kbps MP3 files, or in Lossless FLAC audio format, in the LynneMusic Download Shop. The purchase also includes full cover artwork (4-page booklet and Inlay tray) complete with plenty of text from Jogeir. This comes as a high resolution printable PDF file, so you can print it on a color printer and make yourself a real cover, if you want to. In his album cover text, Jogeir discusses the story behind each and every track on the album, as well other general ramblings. :-)
