New SID2MIDI version 10/08/2007
After years of apparently being abandoned, there's news from the SID2MIDI project. Michael Schwendt, creator of the tool, has stated on the forum that he indeed has abandoned his SID related projects for the time being. Since former versions of SID2MIDI were restricted shareware though, Michael has now released an unrestricted evaluation version 0.17.8 of the useful tool, for Windows.

SID2MIDI "converts" SID files into MIDI data by a complex method of emulating a c64 environment similar to SID players, and then analysing the SID output to determine the music data.

After this update, the collection should contain 34,127 SID files!

This update features (all approximates):

  • 1127 new SIDs
  • 19 fixed/better rips
  • 8 fixes of PlaySID/Sidplay1 specific SIDs
  • 8 repeats/bad rips eliminated
  • 773 SID credit fixes
  • 700 tunes assigned a sidmodel flag

  • 29 UNKNOWN game tunes identified

Special Guests lineup at the Symphonic Games Concert 24/05/2007

Starting off the Games Convention in Leipzig, Germany on the 22nd of August, there will be a Symphonic Games Music Concert featuring symphonic renditions of game soundtracks such as StarCraft, Final Fantasy XI, Stranglehold, Metal Gear Solid 3: Snake Eater, Turrican 2 as well as medleys of C64- and Amiga-tunes.

The Amiga-medley will also have a rendition of music from the Pinball games and the author Olof Gustafsson will join the other special guests Allister Brimble, Chris Huelsbeck, Tilman Sillescu and Yuzo Koshiro to sign albums and enjoy hearing their music played live by a massive orchestra.

Another 24h show on SLAY Radio 24/05/2007

This following weekend, starting off Saturday at 18:00 CET with DJ Skitz and his 24h Show Warmup, nearly all the DJs on SLAY Radio will perform a marathon of shows, stretching over a full 24 hours.

The approach this time is that each DJ will do a 3-hour variation of their regular shows to form a full 24 hour block of radio goodness.

Be sure to tune in and join the DJs for a live chat during the shows at #SLAYRadio on EFNet.
