I started with two versions of this; one done in ModPlug Tracker using piano and string samples and a one recorded live from a real synth (an old but wonderful Yamaha DX-7 if I recall). Reasonably pleased with both, I decided to splice them together. I'm surprised at how well it scored; I never felt there was much to shout about other than I don't remember there being any other River Caves remixes at the time.
The extremely low-quality sample of rushing water and the drums I cynically borrowed from a Depeche Mode track do give it some atmosphere but I'm not proud of this by any means. At least I didn't swamp it in reverb this time; so I was learning. Just hearing the sound of my old DX-7 makes it enjoyable to some degree, but I'm not sure if anyone else would get much out of this remix.
