About two years ago I had made the typical Vangelis lead in an older version of Reason. Just for the fun of it. Didn't do anything with it until recently when I found out that the measure in Vangelis "To The Unknown Man" is the same as in the beginning of the Ocean Loader. "I can feel a remix coming up! Oh gosh yes!"

I wanted this remix to sound old. As in OLD old. So not just a simple distortion over the end-mix, but making each instrument go past some analogue limit, narrow mixing, shallow sound, no advanced compression, simple arrangement... stuff like that. And of course some record crackles, warp and hiss should make it even more pretentious than just a tear jerking Galway melody over a Vangelis arrangement.

I thought I knew the original SID and the Vangelis track well enough make a WIP without listening to either of them. When Ziphoid was playing it on-air, FunkyM IRC'd that he recognized Green Beret. I thought: "Do UR homework dude. It's the Ocean Loader. Or... is it? Oh bugger, I mixed them up!". I hate being wrong.

I also hate doing fade-outs. Can you tell?

prowler shouts: Didn't see that coming ;-)
chilli_uk shouts: Tubular bells meats jarre with a vangelis baby - I love it - some how not perfectly polished off but the slight roughness works well and Tron its cool
scyphe shouts: The rhythms used throughout the song are somehow just not fitting. The second part of the song sounds like too much quantization has been used, very exact (and slightly lifeless).
symbols shouts: Jarre Esque to a T
XxDUSTYxX shouts: Good remix. It has its moments... But why this ending?:)
varix shouts: It's not Jarre, it's pure Vangelis. Just listen to big Greek's early records like Spiral. I had a laugh about it hearing these instruments mapped on the c64 tune but its entertainement value fades after 1, 5 minutes.
LaLa shouts: I am a sucker for anything SID covered in Vangelis style as I am a huge fan of both, and this pretty much nails Green Beret in the style of "To The Unknown Man". Very well done! Excellent fadeout, too!=)
moog shouts: Wow! This is the most innovative remix this year (so far), beside that it's excellently done!
westerling shouts: Good atmosphere! Sounds "old"=me likes. But the ironic ending makes me feel sick!
Agemixer shouts: My humble vote.. Simple, clean arrangement with "old" nostalgic style fits nicely. Funny ending, that was quite brave insert (because it doesn't fit ;) Nice to hear something "not that serious" stuff like this! Hmm, red or orange...;)
anaconda shouts: Damn! If only proper drums were used in the second half! Just need that extra bit of punch. Too bad!
orsted shouts: C'mon, this ending ruined a good song.
Cubud shouts: Nice sounds, but far too slow. I love the upbeat temp on the original.
Nebdar shouts: I love Vangelis so also their style and this is fine with me. Nice job. Yatta yatta and end cool
Amok shouts: Fricking underrated!!! I love it :)
Andersson shouts: Greatest ending ever.
modman shouts: Outstanding!
