Turrican 2: Freedom - Western Remix

Hi everybody,
for some reason, one night, just before falling asleep, it suddenly came to my mind that one of my favourite Amiga tunes ("Freedom", from Turrican II) uses almost the same harmonies as a very famous piece of music written by Ennio Morricone ("The Ecstasy Of Gold", from the soundtrack of the Western Film "The Good, The Bad and The Ugly").
In my opinion, the soundtrack of this film is one of the best ever produced, so with a marvellous piece of music by E. Morricone on CD and a marvellous piece of music by C. Huelsbeck on computer, the logical next step for me was to mix them together in one tune.
What you hear in my remix is the original recording from the soundtrack by Morricone, along with the Turrican II tune performed by me on my Korg X3 workstation.

Hi, just one more note... I just read a few votes from users and appartently one point about this song, although I tried my best to avoid misunderstandings, isn't realized by many of them, so maybe I should point it out again here (hope you're not disappointed after reading):
The main idea behind this was more like an experiment. I wanted to demonstrate how well Morricone's "Extasy of Gold" goes together with "Turrican II: Freedom". That's why I used the original recording of Morricone's soundtrack and put "Freedom", performed by me, over it (the first 30 seconds of the tune are performed by me alone, then Morricone kicks in and me and Morricone play together *l*). I could have performed Morricone's soundtrack too rather than ripping it from CD but in my opinion, using the original soundtrack from CD for it was more original because this makes it 100% clear that not a single note of "Extasy of Gold" was modified to match Turrican II.
Of course, this means that most of the "performing" work in this remix actually isn't mine, but I was hoping for people to vote for the idea of combining these two songs, rather than for the technical performance.
Of course, I mentioned these points explicitely in my description of this song above but it seems many users vote without having read it before. This is probably because when you click on a song that has votings attached here at amigaremix.com, the song is played - to read the votings, you have to click on the smiley (unlike remix64.com, where - when you click on the song - a new page opens on which you can read the votings as well as download the tune).
Anyway, next piece will be 100% AmiGamer again, i promise! ;)

REVIEW BY Tas (31/10/2005) This is a very curious mix and one that will likely swing you one way or the other. Amigamers mix here (as is advertised in the remix notes) contains Moricone's original tune Ecstasy of Gold but with AmiGamer playing over the top of it with his synth.This ofcourse causes a bit of a dilema because the idea is top notch and it sounds right too but most of the hard work has been done already by moricone. So how do you rate this? Well, you could say it just sounds great or you could feel cheated that this mostly isn't the remixers own work or even like me you appreciate it still but feel by giving it a high mark is cheating everyone including the remixer. All i can say is that you download it and enjoy what is a great tune and make up your own mind it's value. |

REVIEW BY lyramion (30/10/2005) 90% rip of 'ecstasy of gold'.the idea is good, but all you've done were the first 30 seconds and then copy paste ennios original. im ashamed, but i can not give you points for something you haven't done. --- thanks for your statement. i would have appreciated it, if you had used the morricones notes/tunes instead of his complete song. you proofed that you can go in this direction with the first 30 secs. so its like tas wrote: double-edged. i changed my nostalgic vote. |
