How can I make C64-style music? Do I need C64 samples? or is there any program that gives pure C64 tones?

Hi,

try the QuadraSID VSTi:

http://www.refx.net/pro_QuadraSID.htm?lang=eng

Or you could go all the way and buy a HardSID soundcard:

http://www.hardsid.com/

There are also Sampling CDs wich have c64 sounds on them, but then you could always record SID sounds from a c64 or a good emulator.

Or make real c64 music, using programmes like Odin Tracker:

These will work on emulators too, although some purists will claim that emulated SID doesn't sound real enough. Several emulators support the HardSID card, though - so that could be sorted.

There is also a freeware vst plug-in that produces close-to-sid sound,
Quantum 64. No real emulation, but feasible.
You can download it here for example:

Or get GoatTracker if you're running Windows.
