Can anyone identify composer of this Amiga mod?

Can anyone identify composer of this Amiga mod?

Post by BasicCoder »

Hello again folks,

This is one of the very first Amiga mods I ever heard way back in late 1991 on my new Acorn A3000 (whose non-switch-offable low-pass filter did a wonderful job of totally muffling the sound!). It came on a PD disc with some other tunes.

It's called 'good song!', but that may not be the original title (and probably isn't). I hadn't heard it since 1992, and I was pleased to come across again today, and I rather like it! It's got a kind of mood that appeals to me.

EDIT: MP3 - http://www.proggies.uk/audio/GoodSong.mp3

Does anyone know the name/handle of the composer? I'd like to check out his (or her) other works.

If I had anywhere near the talent of the guy who made this tune then I would do a faithful remake of it in Renoise.

No one likes getting 0 replies in a forum, so thanks for that! :)

I guess the tune's authorship will remain a mystery... forever.

D'you know, I can assist with this one.

I wouldn't have been able to up until two years ago, mind you. But as luck would have it, in 2013 this very tune appeared in (extremely handsomely) remixed form on Allister Brimble's Amiga Works album, going by the new name of "Sexy Robot". Here's a link to a YouTube TuneCore post of the track in question:

It's one of the very few tunes composed by Mr Brimble featured on said album that I'd never heard previously. I don't know precisely where it originates from, but I can make an educated guess based on its listing in the "What tracks will the project contain?" section of the album's original Kickstarter campaign page:

https://www.kickstarter.com/projects/20 ... escription

Here the track is listed as "Amiga Format Demo (Sexy Robot)". So, presumably, this tune started out life as the accompaniment to a demo of some sort that came on a coverdisk with Amiga Format magazine. I can neither confirm nor deny the involvement of sexy robots.

There we go. I hope the above stuff proves pleasing!

Aha! Here we go: more info from the man himself.

That clarifies things further still. Hurrah!

Thanks Matt! So the mystery is solved. :-)

I would never have guessed it was one of Allister Brimble's efforts, even though I've listened to a few of his tunes ('Project X' several times over). I don't know why someone saw fit (way back in '90 or '91) to rename it "good song!" (well, maybe 'cuz it *is* good?), but it probably wasn't an Amiga user.

I've listened to Allister's remake 3 or 4 times today. I like it. One to keep...

Thanks again!

David.

I see that Allister has recently removed his 'Sexy Robot' soundtrack video from his YouTube channel. :-(
