I'm wondering if your wife ever feels like she's having it off with Darth Vader?? :hysterical:

Ever thought about an operation?
I have lots of heavy breathing jokes... :)

I've thought about the operation, but so far everyone who has had it done, has told me horror storys about afterwards, especialy eating and drinking food and not being the same after the surgery.

I'm hoping to lose more weight and see if it helps. I was at 180 Pounds at one point. Right now I'm hovering between 168-170. Hope to bring it down to 160-165.

Well I can add another operation horror story, I was technically dead while they left me alone post surgery. I was given repeated heart massage and oxygen and spent 6 hours in intensive care vomiting blood, according to my dad who found me not breathing. If he hadn't found me so quickly I would probably have been dead or brain damaged today.

Afterwards they deleted all this in my records. Now the records have gone "missing". Naturally my parents were furious but you basically can't sue a hospital in Denmark. I was 15 at the time of this operation.

So naturally I was a bit anxious when I had my FESS operation 2 years ago.

Surgery is always to be a last option!

PS. I actually had and clearly remember as the only thing my near death experience, tunnel of light, booming voice of God saying "it's not your time yet", and all. Just like you freaking hear on a bad TV show! Didn't make me religious though :-)

Aww - how did I miss this topic (and a chance to whinge)?! I've been suffering with full on sinusitis for about 2 years now and it's doing my NUT in! Some days it feels like I've got my face in a vice and some bastard is gently tightening it up (wasn't that a scene in Casino)?

Anyway, I have a Neti pot and it's very good for when you have a full blown infection (thick, heavy, brown alien style super snot-shit which often reaches the consitency of 'flubber' - bounces like it, too) but no use for when you've got that clear crap backing up into your ears (which then leads to an ear infection/fever... Oh, ain't life swell)!

Yankees and Canadians have this option though, which I'm desperatley trying to source in the UK:

http://www.ent-consult.com/enzymes.html

Supplier of calibrated med as suggested in the report, here:

http://www.hydromedonline.com/clearease.html

Also, traditional Chinese accupuncture works well, but I can't afford it ATM. A few years ago I had accupunture treatment (for about 8 months) for a herniated disc in my lower back. I didn't get one single sniffle during that time, so if you have the dosh - it's worth a try.

Anyway, back to my endless suffering... :help: :duh:

I got my nasal septum removed some years ago because of similar problems.
It didn't helped.
They opened both maxillary sinuses.
It didn't help shit.

Tomorrow I'll see a doctor to go through 'sleep lab' to see what is wrong with me in the night.
I keep snoring very heavily and then suddenly doing a sigh with deep exhalation - to stop breathing for some time.
Scares the shit out of my girl and my friends who experienced such 'last breath'. It's certainly not healthy and could attribute to my overall shitty sleep and my steady headaches.
For the whole january my right arm's gone numb to a certain degree which is the final thing to drive me concerned enough to see the doc.

 I'm not 40 yet but I slowly transform into a Zombie...
Anyone a bet that I have Alzheimer's desease for a bonus?

That is a horrific story, sorry you had to go through it.

Its the same here in North America... My wife got an infection after her operation for thyroid cancer back in 2001, everything seemed to be ok, till she developed a fever and I had to rush her back to the hospital. It turns out she got an infection where they did the surgery and a hole was starting to form long story short they put a tube down here throat and she couldnt speak... I was visiting everyday and making sure all her needs were met and that she wasnt neglected. The following day, I come to see all this medical equipment in her room.

Well she went CODE Blue which is basically dead, it turns out her tube had to be replaced every 24 hours and they hadnt replaced it for 3 days so it got blocked and she couldnt breath. She wrote help I cant breath on a notepad (which I still keep) and the nurse called for help and they were able to save her. This was a very big deal.... we thought about taking things to court, but at the time she had already gone through so much and we were more concerned about her cancer treatment rather than suing, so we never pursuit it.

Oh and you can make of this whatever you want, but the Nurse that came in just in time and saved my wife, was never to be found... nobody knew her based on my wifes descriptions of her, and they said they didnt have such nurse on that shift.

You have just described Sleep Apnea which is what I have and I was diagnosed at the age of 25.

Basically the palette at the back of you're throat relaxes to a point where it collapses and you stop breathing and the lack of oxygen to the brain tells you to wake up and start breathing again, this can happen several times a minute.

Headaches, waking up with numb arm's is a side effect of that.

Lagerfeldt wrote:Neti doesn't work for me unfortunately.

Been through 3 nose operations, two for a broken nose and one sinus operation two years ago (FESS-operation).

Nothing has helped and right now sitting in front of the keyboard my face and nose is all swollen. Argh!!!

So I'll swap your couple of months worth of cold with my 4 years of puffy face anyday!
Just a little tip that has changed my life quite a bit since my last post a couple of months ago in this thread. And it was actually immediately after this thread I started checking some new stuff out.

I now have a diagnosis (found it via Wikipedia): Vasomotor Rhinitis

And a partial cure: Atrovent nasal spray (recommended in the Wikipedia article). I got a perscription from my doctor.

So anyone with similar symptoms to mine might wanna give that spray a try. Been taking it twice a day every day since.

I'd say I'm a good 75% better now! :D It's quite amazing and it's not allergenic at all, it's something to do with the blood vessel contraction apparently.

I've got an appointment with my doctor march 27th. I'm still suffering. I seem to get a one weeks relief in between relapses.

I'll check into this medication and see if its something for me.

Sleep lab was kind of dissapointing. Had some breathing lapses but i hardly could sleep at all with all that equipment and that stupid flickering IR LEDs for the cams. I was diagnosed with a mild version of sleep apnoa. So I'm stuck with that 'shellshock' theory... :duh:

I defo know how you feel Analog-X64 :( I've got the same problem myself.. I dunno how many doc's appointments I've had during the last years. I have probably spent thousands of SEK on medications, both western medicine and alternative medicine. Nothing seems to help and I am very sick of it!

Last week I had an allergic reaction to a coughing syrup and had to spend a couple of hours at the ER - was looking like a tomato and had a horrible itch all over the body. When I entered the door to the ER the tounge started swelling - thank fook I went in when I did.

Ahh shit, I won't turn into a rant here but yeah.. colds are not fun! :yuck:

EDIT: oh yea, I've felt "good" for a couple of days and now it's time for another one! :dancing:

:confusion: My! This thread reads like we are a bunch of freaks of nature...
I was never into being 'special' - especially I don't want to be when it comes down to health issues or such crap like the borked hearing test (my hearing was mysterically restored to normal levels in this test - I say the test has to be a piece of crap as my hearing was sincerely impaired since an ammunition chamber explosion back in the early nineties).

It's not just us - it's a worldwide phenomenon. Over-use of antibiotics has impaired our ability to heal as nasty bugs become more and more resistant.

We're all doomed...

On a positive note - I've just been to Pizzahut!
