Help saving MySQL (urgent)

Post by LMan »

A little odd request, but if you care about MySQL being really open-source, please consider supporting the cause, right now (it really can't wait!)

... and now think of all the other SUN-related free software... in the clutches of Oracle. It's like Microsoft acquiring Linux... :help:
All is lost.

First thing's first - MySQL is already open source, under GPL.

Second - wouldn't you rather that Sun be acquired by Oracle than IBM, who would definitely buy just to shut down Sun completely?

I'm not concerned about MySQL as much...

Oracle wants in on the action in the hardware scene, and is really excited about the Solaris and OpenSolaris projects (who btw are open source too!)

I do not work for Oracle, Sun OR IBM, I'm just an active community member in the OpenSolaris project.
In a sky full of people - only some want to fly. Isn't that crazy?

Best thing would be for Sun to remain independent. But that's wishful thinking.

I've been listening to some old tech podcasts on my commutes to work and back, and this was mentioned sometime back in 2007. With speculation of all the back dealings between the two companys.
