Which, adjusted for inflation, is probably the same price it was new :)

Yes. And for a full grand, that could be the same for this Amiga.

£1,000! For that money, there's nothing wrong with emulation. No, there is nothing wrong with emulation. NOTHING wrong!

I do want to buy a scandoubler though, plus relevant switchbox to share the monitor.

And I also had my attention called to this:

My Friend the Enemy, a book to help girls deal with life in a Japanese prisoner of war camp.

Look at that face. She knows she's got this sh*t by the ass, as Americans say.

There are only so many copies left! And I got mine for 61p. Cheers, Waterstones: http://www.waterstonesmarketplace.com/M ... ok/4535281

And maybe Chris Abbott can hold a custom-written SID evening in its honour. After all, why not? We've come this crazy.

The Aussie Commodore. And for a £25 Buy It Now, it's a bargain for someone. I just haven't got the beans today.

Thanks Sub. Some real classic games there. The bid had ended but there are luckily plenty more. I want to complete my Playstation 2 music software now. There's much nice stuff still bouncing around for that, which are still pretty cheap, and often sealed, in that twilight period between outdated and retro. I like that twilight so much.

Though in my recommended now, for some reason, is this little stamp. And it does catch my eye.

There's a moody fuhrer we've got here.

This is a really nice game with fantastic Atari music.

This is one of the cheaper copies. And I do want a copy one fine day.

And now boffins have given us VHS tapes lasting six hours.. in Short Play. That'll be fine for taping the whole election in LP next year, so I can sleep assured that I won't miss a second of the action. (Well I've enjoyed the 60s, 70s and 80s ones off Youtube anyway.)

Yeah, my interests are limited.

Though you do also get a review of that LD console, thanks to the Web:

Well I dunno. Guitar Hero World Tour came with one in its drums and that was for the PS2. This does seem to take things a step further, along with that real MIDI guitar for the PS3 I mentioned before.

Next, a format I've neglected 'til now, as it was a bit crap even before it was launched: Video CD.

I've got a few like DAS BOOT and there are some more here: http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/lot-of-16-x-i ... 58b77f7e2f

Yellow Submarine: http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/The-Beatles-Y ... 3f296b06b3

Funny how all these movies are subbed too, actually printed on the films.

And the Playstation VCD adapter: http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Playstation-G ... 43d1e071fc

Many DVD players still play them, with its rarer cousin the Super VCD. But they were never going to work. For the price of a player and movies, you were just a few hundred short of a Laserdisc machine but plenty enough for a quality VCR with LP and Hifi. So obviously, the format was left behind. PCs could play 'em too, though, and they were big in the Far East for karaoke.

The charity shops are still good places for a pile of stuff. In the past fortnight, I spent £75 on a stack of Laserdiscs, VHS bits, records and the rest you see here, excluding the telly and stuff actually in the drawers.

The lesson is to maybe volunteer at one of the bigger shops, if only to grab some great retro gear before they chuck it for being 'unsellable'. Magnificient video stuff can be binned, as the game would have been, yet crusty and filthy old coffee machines pack the BHF shelves in my town.

My favourite picks were the drawers at £35, 14 discs for £12, stellar quality VCR for £7.50, game £3.75.

Locations: British Heart Foundation, Broad Street, Reading. Oxfam music shop, Duke Street, Reading. Sara asthma shop, Tilehurst.

Go down 'em before they run out of VHS stock completely.

The 70s and 80s truly never left your house :)
