New Release - Defender of the Crown (The Elf's Story)

Post by poke16384 »

So... A massive remix incorporating 6 sub-tunes from the game, woven into a story and narrated in elvish by.. An Elf..

Here's the remix: https://www.remix64.com/track/peter-cla ... s-story-2/

As always, all feedback is welcome..

..and here's what the elf actually says..

It completely eluded me that this might start a pun-epidemic...

Pete, this remix is so good, it must've been very good for your elf-esteem.

Oh! I'm just a poor, 'elf-employed musician, doing the best I can...

That was elfin' awesome.

I think omoroca really doesn't like you though given the raft of "Nope!" and crappy votes on all of your recent releases.

Thanks _Steve_..

It did turn out quite well, even if I do say so mys'elf'.. :D

..and as far as omoroca is concerned.. LMan's new voting algorithm disregards single, outlying votes. So, a single grey or green has very little, if any effect at all.. If he really thinks that 'Defender of the crown' or any of my recent remixes are that dreadful, he's more than welcome to write a full review and explain his reasons why, using the same set of guidelines that the rest of the remix community use... Technique / Artistic skill / Nostalgia factor & Overall rating.

Sadly, some people don't give constructive criticism and they don't take it well either.... :nonono:

Wait, there's a new voting algorithm?
The voting system explanation page https://www.remix64.com/articles/voting-system.html still has the same content as ever...

Sure! I remember reading a post / update / news thingy about it from Chris Abbott.. maybe late last year?

I definitely read it though.. more of a tweak to disregard single outliers... (or maybe they should be called out..liars)

Maybe someone can remember where it was...

Yes, the regular voting system is the same since ages. And indeed outliers are mostly disregarded in the overall vote. I think what you meant, Peter, is the recent change to the ROTY voting algorithm. This was mentioned in the ROTY show.

I'm actually curious as to what the ROTY voting algorithm was for 2019. But if you think publishing that algorithm would make it prone to cheating, then never mind - I'm not that curious. :)

For me the problem with the new system and not publishing the algorithm is that I can totally not relate to the score, it felt a little bit random (although the rankings seem reasonable). I think it would have been better to put the number of votes in brackets behind the score to give at least anything as an anchor.

It's not random at all, but it takes into account not only the number of ROTY votes, but the regular votes too, the amount of remixes released and such things. The problem was we have fewer ROTY votes each year. So if you would, for instance, ask a couple of friends to vote for you (which is kinda legit), it could easily make you win several categories. Another problem is that with fewer votes, you get more shared ranks acciordingly, resulting in maybe 10 arrangers occupying ranks 1-3. Since calling for votes on the radio shows and social media, and even simplifying the process to one click, did not resolve the issue, we saw no other way than changing the algo.

So with the new algo, the ROTY vote has some weight, but is most of all a nomination for the lists.
