Why can't I have a CBM BASIC interpreter/compiler for PC?

Why can't I have a CBM BASIC interpreter/compiler for PC?

Post by Commie_User »

There's the BBC Micro one which can compile programs for standalone Windows use, plus Qbasic 45 which spits out DOS code. I've had fun on both, especially the BBC one because it can also handle MIDI and JPEGs.

So near yet so far away: http://www.pagetable.com/?p=48 - Nearly as useless as Shado on the real Commie!

Wonder if can get some of these typed in: http://www.scribd.com/doc/76837027/Your ... 64-Program

I have a Book stashed away, which had different codes for simple games to type, but as I recall it was full of syntax errors. Which in a way was good, it made you think about how programs worked and helped you debug them.

That would be nice! I use CBMprg Studio http://www.ajordison.co.uk/screenshots.html ---- you can get plenty of books from BombJack's site and most if not all have OCR'd text allowing you to cut and paste directly into CBM Studio. Zeros and other numbers can come out strange so you have to do some manual fixing, but I've had a few text adventure programs run nicely - modified with my own text, of course. :-)

No conversion to EXE or Flash though. Looks as if actually running code is all the program misses to be a killer app.

And RT Russell does it again: http://www.bbcbasic.co.uk/qb2bbc/index.html

Perhaps these homebrewers will get around to more intelligent OCR intuition too. (The voice recognition routines on Paypal's helpline are so good I almost enjoy calling them, so things can be done.) But fair's fair, for people who do this sort of thing for the love of it, they already give us more than we deserve.
