If that wasn't in her confession, there's no way anyone could know that...

Well Hollywood screwed it up. Well, no. Well maybe.

They guy survived in this version and got his revenge, if fighting for your life is revenge. And Stephen Rea always deserves to live.

In all, a decent movie of low-end villains, with plenty of gore. Though I was struck by the commentary, giving too much sympathy to the devil. After all, it's more than 'stress' to make you leave a dying man in a window through choice.

Though what better way to celebrate the new ending than by wheeling out the classic Atari 2600?

Even I was tempted by that, until I looked at the state of my office :) (and the fact that I think that will go for a fair old amount in the end).

Well, on my birthday that's just the encouragement I need! Though we shall see, as I've been surprised with the price of the last one.

Though if I do miss out on a bobby dazzler, there's still more Atari to consider. I never finished packing the collection and of course never will.

I think Atari needs to be played on an actual machine. I found the emulator a horrible experience...

Yes, there's still the magic of the real gear. All those cartridges and accessories in the grotto are what it's all about. But even so, recent versions of Stella play remarkably well. And I already downloaded most of the roms years ago.

And I see less point of a real system in a home without a 'proper', authentic pre-digital, cathode ray portable television anyway? Preferably black and white for that full, period bedroom experience.

You'll need to mod. And I'm not modding mine as it's too pristine.

That's a damn big banjo......

Not too bad a price either, well compared to the high street. Second hand prices are a bit more reasonable.

http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Double-Bass-/ ... 41781f60ae

I had a twiddle with one in a music shop. And as with so many things, real ones bring out the doodles differently to a keyboard firing Kontakt. And one would be nice to play against the Commie electronics.

And though downpitched cello's alright, I still love the feel. Even second hand and worn a bit.

New and shiny's always more special. But 14 Grand...? For a soundbox and catgut?

And I dreamt I found a harmonium-celeste crossbreed in a junk shop. Looked like a Mellotron, with the harmonium section left for the lower octaves.

My brain must have been impressed as I was willing to pay three grand for it. Which would, I'd say, be about right for a decent antique of such.

Ebay throws up some interesting options there:

Image
http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Musser-Ampli- ... 338671a062

Impressive, with a hefty tag.

Image
http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Pianoteq-Cele ... 2a3284e5a5

For now, rompling's more the option. I sampled wine glasses and things when I wanted that kind of sound.

Image
http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Erard-London- ... 1c37b5d38c

...Though this antique joanna sells for a lot less than new ones down the shop. Result.

Image

And back on the computer, another stepping stone to full sonic perfection. I look forward to the next 25 years.

Which does throw up an interesting question. With such galaxy-size soundscapes now open thanks to digital, why do so many people still keep within their little range of favourite sonics?

Yeah. No more synths for your next piece. Try making music with the sound of reed instruments, drum packs or glasses instead. It's amazing what new stuff comes out. (I run the risk of alienating myself but there's too much elevator music on here.)

BETTER THAN SEX!

Oh yes, I won it Chris. And at a price lower than even I expected, though bidding was static 'til right the last minute. Mind, I won't get completely excited 'til it arrives. That other one failed to read half the discs and was sent back.

(But don't tell my girlfriend in any case. She wanted me to pay her phone bill but I pleaded poverty. Well, it's true now anyway.)

Worth it for the player alone but look at all those movies. LP's certainly losing its sheen for me right now as I wonder how many to clear from the shelf for video room. Or how many to sell as I won't be keen on all of them. :)

So this'll have to wait then, the original LP soundtrack of one of the cultiest cult movies of all time.

Expensive. And funny to think it's all library music from earlier TV shows anyway.

I really do second that Chris. That LD woman's an absolute gem, even saying out the blue that she'll drop the unit at my door this week, though the details say collect only. And even without the movie stack, a model like that's never miss.

So with another beauty in the museum, it may be time to explore the last big legend. Across the big four of LD, DVD, VHS and Beta I could choose from pretty much anything ever released. (Well, barring scarcity.) Old blank tapes yield all sorts of treasure.

...Or perhaps Big Five, counting Youtube and the rest of the Net. But what's on tape?

Well there's a few for the starter kit. A serious collection continuing to build and which I want lasting way past even selling the studio gear.
