Matt Gray "Reformation" Kickstarter

Post by Chris Abbott »

Hi guys,

Just to avoid cluttering up the board, all updates for the Matt Gray "Reformation" Kickstarter project will be put here. It starts November 2nd.
It's a bit of an adventure, since it's the first time a purely C64 composer has done a Kickstarter and offered new SIDs.

What is it for?

1) A double album of remakes from Matt of his most popular SIDs
2) A Last Ninja 2 remake album in a separate case.

Stretch goal 1 is: "NEW SIDs!"
3) Double album gets a CD of audio recordings (thus becoming a triple album) from 6 new SIDs created by Matt in his own drivers: imaginary sequels to previous stuff (such as "Driller 2", "Dominator 2" and "Last Ninja - The Lost Level"

Stretch goal 2 is: "More Remakes!"
4) Add another CD (making 4 CDs), thus making it an exhaustive Matt Gray box set.

For day 1 and 2 backers (and anyone from this board who pledges after that deadline but PMs me), they get digital access to a Dominator 2 EP (not a SID, but "imaginary sequel remakes") by Matt when the Kickstarter ends.

The Kickstarter URL is: http://www.mattgrayc64.uk, or at least it will be on launch!

Cheers!

There will also be video interviews with Matt answering all my nerdly questions about his career over the course of the Kickstarter.

One quick question that springs to mind. Say you pledge day one for a particular perk level. Then half way through the Kickstarter, some new perks are introduced and you change your pledge to one of those instead. Will Kickstarter be clever enough to know you still pledged on day 1 before you changed? Thought I'd ask in terms of the Dominator 2 EP because having been on KS for a while, people changing pledge levels is commonplace.

First of all, people on this board can PM me to take advantage of that offer whenever they pledge, but also I'll be seeing if Matt can give me a data dump of the KS when the cut-off point arrives (it will be generous) so that I can create all the C64Audio accounts to allow the downloads. That hopefully will mean that subsequent changes would be irrelevant.

It would be really handy if everyone could keep the tweeting and sharing up during the duration of the Kickstarter (I know it's tedious, I'm usually not an oversharer either), so we can keep it going and reach the stretches as well (the SID stretch is pretty important to me). I've got lots of different posts lined up over the 30 days.

The various graphical assets and press releases for this KS are here, if anyone wants to make use of them or send them to magazines or whatnot:

Will be sending the press release to Games Press anyway. There's a press release in French too if anyone can make use of it!

All hands to the pump, this is a marathon, not a sprint ;-)

We're all very relieved. These things take ages to put together, and it's a lot of work to do (Around a month) for something that never happens.

Just to clarify, VIP level should get the same super box set as Level 5, but it got missed out of the copy in the pledge, correct? Does this mean Level 5 will be reduced to 230 copies to compensate (given 260 are being made), or are you making 20 more copies to accommodate the VIP pledges? Curiosity here :)

(I'm deciding which of the two to pledge currently!)

VIP gets the Level 5 set, some extra will be pressed. We'd have altered the text, but they wouldn't let us, so Matt did an update.

I took the level 5 in the end plus t-shirt and vinyl as well.

Really pleased that all 20 VIP places were already taken though - and if you're reading this Matt, my offer still stands for any sleeve notes you need writing :)

You've got form on booklets, as I well know ;-)

I suspect the Kickstarter backers will only be satisfied with Matt's own words in the booklet. They're an ornery bunch ;-)
