renderxm

This software is pretty cool. It will convert xm modules to high quality wave files. It used to be commercial. Now its freeware.

I just use XMplay, it was always free - it has the most correct player for XM/MOD. http://www.un4seen.com

Sure. I've used XMP before but I dislike having to switch between players. That's essentially why I use winamp. I recognize that XMP may have perfect playback, allthough I can't be sure (and a 0.1% deviation is no catastrofe to me). However renderxm does more than near-perfect rendition of xm, it also does dithering and sinc interpolation, which I gather will improve sound quality a fair bit. Oh, I didn't mention that renderxm is not a player. The homepage would have told you that though.

Something I would have used 4 years ago, when I still had a computer capable of running FT2 :/

I don't like Modplug Tracker.

It can't run on a modern computer? Or is it the OS? Perhaps someone will improve the source, if its available.

So far renderxm performs well. The exception so far has been You Better Believe by Drax where at 2:02 the lead is rendered incorrectly (the sample is repeated at a wrong offset or something.)

Strike that last comment. I reported the bug and within hours I got an email that renderxm had been fixed -- nice!

Yeah, and full MIDI, so you can use midi+samples+vst at the same time.

It also has a pretty nice minimalistic fullscreen interface (for a tracker that is). Only disappointment so far: I haven't heard any kick-ass music made with it.

No need, I'll just reload it. :-) It does seem quite good. The instruments are pleasing and it feels solid. I don't have any attachment to the song though, but its enjoyable.

Makkes Lost Patrol is nice and so is Sonic W's Last Ninja Wilderness. (Very clear 80s style!:)
