Music Video Project Progress Diary

I'm going to use this thread to keep you updated as I work on my first Music Video Project, and possibly pickup suggestions as I go along. Or maybe scrap the whole sharing idea and keep the rest a secret till I release it. ;)

A couple of preliminary Scene Ideas.

1000 + Amiga "Boing!" balls falling using a Particle System. Note: The Boing! balls here are rendered using the proper Vertical and Horizontal Segments.

The Following Scene looks more impressive animated than as a single frame. This was a very time consuming scene to produce. I first previewed all 1000+ Screen Shots from the GB64 Database, I than picked my favourite screen shots, followed by what I thought were awesome C64 Title Screens.

I plan to make this video as a tribute to both C64 and Amiga so you will see familiar Demo Elements from both the C64 and Amiga Era.

Ofcourse in this case they are rendered.

Its like a Visual version of doing a C64 Remix. Where you take a SID Tune and do a cover/remix using New Instruments.

I'm going to take Demo Elements which normally were generated using a VIC or Paula, Agnus, and Denise Chips.

I've picked a single tune that will play through out the Video, which I've preselected and got permission from author over 6 months ago...I'm going to keep the tune a secret. :)

Depending if I run out of Ideas, or Get stuck with my limited skill this Video could be anywhere between 2 to 3 minutes long. I might use a different tune for end credits. Will see how that goes.

The above Test Scenes were done in 640x480 @ 24 FPS. Which seems to be the Standard Resolution of some of the Video Demo's I've seen released in the Scene. I think at this early stage of the game I need to consider what my final output will be. I have choices of

NTSC 720x480 @ either 29.97 frames per second or 23.976 frames per second

PAL 720x756 @ 25 FPS.

I would like your opinion/input on this. What do you think?

Also another thing that I have to consider logistically is having a Text Scroller scrolling through out the entire video, which I have to do using some kind of Overlay. The individual scenes will be too short to have their own text scrollers.

Go for PAL..

Or even better.. why not go for one of them new HD standards ;)

Yes, HD would be nice. And no interlacing, please. Only them old tube TVs need that, so why bother!

I think 1920x1080 is full HD, you can generate smaller versions from that later.

It looks promising - I do hope you've got the time for completing such a project, it'll be huge! :-D

I'd say don't bother with interlaced formats. (C64 wasn't interlaced to begin with... and most Amiga stuff didn't use interlace either).

But then, they were 50Hz PAL - non interlaced. Which none of these standard formats of today handles correctly (C64 and Amiga used a hardware hack by _not_ delaying every other frame half a rasterline to accomplish non-interlacing).

What is your "target audience"? If it's computer people, then let their video player deal with converting from 50Hz into someting else (which probably will be a 60Hz TFT display)...

Anyway... there's no "perfect format". Whatever you choose, it won't solve everything...

Good luck!

Ohh come on guys!
Don't make his work so hard with this High Definition stuffs.

That being the case this is rendered scenes, so simple PAL 720x756 @ 25 FPS. will do, but display ratio must be 16:9 for my LCD screen tv.

The target audience is you guys :)

I was doing some reading on PAL and NTSC Video on DVD format and there is no clear answer. However I found this on Wiki.

"MPEG video must be 25 frames per second on PAL DVDs. On NTSC DVDs MPEG-2 video can be either 29.97 frames per second or 23.976 frames per second, while MPEG-1 video can only be 29.97 frames per second. Interlacing is supported for MPEG-2 video on both PAL and NTSC DVDs"

We use the NTSC Standard here, but the majority of my audience will be PAL users. So I may have to make both formats. :)

My Electric Company will love me. I've obtained 6 Pentium III Systems from previous upgrades and other people getting rid of their old system.

I'll be using them like a Render Farm, so it should help render these scenes fairly quickly.

Cool! So you even have your own mini render farm. Not bad! :)

Whatever! Go on, Analog-X! You have our attention!

Those screenshots look really nice, can't wait to see the finished result.

I've started building Render Farm PC's, consisting of 5 Pentium III systems.

I'm really looking forward for some new results like screens or stuff as really liked the 2 above. Especially the one with the amiga balls! nice idea :)
Go on with it Analog-X

Go on with it Analog-X
- I'm getting all the Hardware ready for some heavy duty number crunching.

- I'm still in the process of making a story board of all the scenes and making sure everything will fit in the time line.

I will post more in due time. :)
