I like where you've gone with this.

A lot of the instruments seem to start strong and trail off, so maybe you need to work on making them a bit more consistent that way.

I'm sure you will get better advice from the others.

There's definitely a good remix concept here (I can imagine it being the kind of thing SID80s would riff off for 15 minutes): basically, BMX jazz room. But the instrument reverb is too harsh, the bass too plodding, and everything too mechanical to pull it off. All I can hear is what should be there: Howard Jones style pop piano, a dancing bassline riffing round Rob's iconic notes, Ben Daglish's flute improv and some kick-ass jazz dumming (which you've got right here). Basically, the drum is conveying a sense to the remix you're not fulfilling because it suggests great live players. Also, the original tune, while one of my faves, is kind of repetitive, so it needs lots of improv to stop it getting boring.

IMHO of course :)

He's only just got the basic demo together. That is, if it is just the barebones rough demo?

If it isn't, I think I can see where he's going. I think it needs a bit more work before we can say what's to taste or done wrong.

Yes, it's a kinda jazz-version and i did it within 30 minutes, so it really needs more work :)
So... the work continues ;)

Thanks,

Well, as a proof of concept it works, because it made me see your concept, and what it could be. So yes, continue the research :)

What Chris said. This could be up there with SID80s 10-minute Paperboy jam.

By all means continue working on it. :D

Like the initial sketch idea of this. The drums are definitely welcome as it adds that kind of skiffle drum feel that you'd need to bring it across. The piano is nice, but might need a longer sustain in parts just so it's audible as one of the main leads.

The original tune is quite repetitive though, so please do bear in mind that you may have to improvise if you want to make it longer than two or three minutes, or simply keep it short and sweet - the choice is yours.
