Story

My first remix for RKO

I set out to create a remix of Bulldog that would be different from the original but still be recognisable. Initially I thought that it was an easy song to cover but it really was not. I mean, the melody and chord progressions were easy enough but it was hard not to loose too much of it's energy since I wanted it a bit slowed down. I also wanted it to be heavier than the original so I transposed it down 3 halfnotes and added a choir which I believe did the trick.

The reason I chose Bulldog is that there are not so many remixes made of it on RKO. At least none I think is excellent. It was also a tune I knew by heart and could play without using MIDI or listening to the original SID.

My first version was much more electronic sounding and crowded in the lower frequences but at the end I settled on using orchestral instruments for much of the high notes instead, trying to widen the spectrum. It's still a bit crowded at parts and the last third, which goes into a techno-style, might be a little souleless but I'm ok with it as a first attempt on making a remix for the RKO. At least it's well mixed and balanced (most of it at least).

I do however agree that the lead sound could have had a bit more personality. I tried to give it some more attack and a faster decay but the instrument I was using was a little limited in those areas and I didn't want to put too much effects on everything. It's easy to call in the whole cavalry but it's a bigger challenge to withstand doing it.

All in all, I feel it's a pretty good representation of what I can do but in no case it is at my very best. There will be new remixes in the future where I will show you all what I really can do

And YES, the choir progression in the beginning verse was inspired of Oxygene 7 by Jarre. I thought that was very obvious 😉

Nice debut, interesting style.
Well balanced pretty good production nice soundet all in all a good remix
Its excellent, it wouldn't sound out of place on the Tron Legacy soundtrack, the mastering is quiet but I wont mark it down for that.
Very monotonous track. Nice soundscape, but poor arrangement.
Nice atmosphere, but the lead sound is too wishy-washy.
