You ask one guard and point to one of the doors "If I asked the other guard, is this the door to freedom, what would he say?" Yup, that'll work. Or, with a slight rephrase, you can have the right door pointed to you: "If I asked the other guard which door leads to death, what would h...

I'll do one, then. This one's perhaps too much of a classic, but I couldn't think of a better one - hopefully there are people here who haven't heard it before. So, here we go: Through some Kafkaesque turn of events you have been convicted of a crime and sentenced to death. You are given one last ch...

Okay then. In room one, flip switches a and b. Wait. Just before the door to room two opens, flip switch b again. Do nothing at all with switch c. Now, in room two, one of the bulbs will be on and the others will be off. The one that is on is controlled by switch a. One of the remaining bulbs was sw...

I think I have a solution, but it requires the additional assumption that all the bulbs are in the same state when the task begins. Can we make that assumption?

Slightly slowed down though eh? What too hard for ya? Oh, don't you give me any of that, you...you... No, seriously though, I think the piece works better on the harmonica when slowed down a bit, it lends a nice folksy touch in my opinion. We speed the tune up a little when I switch to the keyboard...

It was pretty darn cool, yeah. I remember saying to myself "OK, I think we have a winner" after Fairlight's Track One had been shown. A little later they showed Starstruck and I had to remind myself never to jump into conclusions. :) I did give my first-place vote to the Fairlight demo, bu...

Opening ceremonies for definite, and the high scores theme too (or world records theme, if you like). Those are the ones, yep. The former is properly called "Bugler's Dream" and was composed by Léo Arnaud. I thought until very recently that the latter was an original piece by whoever c...

Athletic Axes Denied

We came back from our unplanned hiatus last weekend at the Jyrkkä 2006 festival in Pudasjärvi, Finland. Check out this video clip shot by an audience member during our performance. Recognise the tune? ;)

I saw that on the big screen yesterday in the short film competition at Assembly 2006. I rather enjoyed it too, gave it a third-place vote IIRC. I can't say I particularly enjoyed the overall quality of the compo, though... My Assembly contribution was a two-minute MOD I wrote in a few hours just be...

I love books. Not surprisingly, I'm an avid fan of science fiction and fantasy, but I don't restrict myself to those by any means. I've acquired quite a taste for British classics, for instance, and I'm currently in the process of doing a complete reading of Shakespeare's plays. I like to read the l...

I don't know about the kind of guestbook software you use.. But most modern ones have a Captcha possibility.. I was thinking along those lines myself. The script we're using at the moment does not seem to support that, and we'd really rather not get our hands dirty with PHP if we can quickly deploy...
