In need of advice
Hello all,
I know I'm probably going to sound like a total retard asking this, but where can I find some remixing software? I'm a total newbie to this and have never done it before, but I'd like to give it a go. Also which programs do you think is best?

The main ones that seem to be used by remixers here are (in no particular order):
Reason
Fruityloops
Cakewalk/Sonar
Cubase
Trackers (various)
and occasionally ACID.
Just google for the demo versions.
For editing WAVes the main ones seem to be:
SoundForge
CoolEdit
WaveLab
CoolEdit is free.
In terms of raw material, some people just put in the notes by ear, some record samples of the SID to use as part of the piece, and some use SID2MIDI to get a MIDI file out of a SID. The output is very complex, so you need to be pretty skilled in MIDI sequencing.
Generally the remixing process would be as follows:
Pick nice tune you have idea for
Learn tune
Put notes of tune into program
Apply imagination and emotion<--- big step
Get feedback
Apply feedback <--- another big step
Repeat until feedback == "WOW"
Release.

I want to change what I wrote at the bottom, fromLMan / Remix64 wrote:Hey,
you might also want to check out this:

"We'd be delighted to help", to "We'd be delighted to help, unless you're the normal kind of pond slime who infests that vile cesspool otherwise known as the music industry".
Much better ring to it, I think.

Thank you all for your advice and help. I'll certainly check all this stuff out, if I get too stuck I'll ask for more assistance.
I guess I'm going to have fun. I know it's been done a million times but I want to do all the tunes from The Great Gianna Sisters. That was my fave game. Also I want to remix the tune from The Hellrun Machine... and I haven't heard any remixes of that as of yet.
