International Karate theme "borrowed" From Clock on Five???

Post by naughtyboy »

Has anyone heard Clock on Five - Theme From Furyo (1984)? It seems that the main melody directly inspired Rob Hubbard's International Karate Theme~!

Listen: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=D091ULPtAXk

I don't know if this is old news or not, but I just heard it on Intergalactic Radio.

It's the theme from 'Merry Christmas Mr Lawrence' isn't it?

I'm sure there is something in HSVC about it.

I wonder if it's an even older song than that. I heard that tune in many forms when I lived in Japan to the point where if it did come from that movie you'd think there would be a copyright issue with all of the other versions of it. I seem to recall that being used in a Nobunaga game, too.

Wait - I thought Galway was God? Oh no - he just has super-human powers, like Michael Jackson.

Well, there's three minutes on last.fm that I'll never get back. That was utterly hideous, although I'm sure a decent club mix of Merry Christmas Mr Lawrence could be done.

That Clock On mix is pretty rough, too. For best results, stick with Sakamoto!

Well, that was at least inoffensive, in Oakenfold's typically bland manner.

I reckon MCML could work nicely as a dance track, but they need a bit more care with the original music and its oriental nature.
