nope... they are as hollow-brained as the stupid dick who invented daylight-saving. it's a proven fact, that daylight-saving does NOT save any energy, instead there was *from the start on* an increase in energy waste... not to mention the chaos and costs in changing train, flight and what-god-knows plans... it's big bullocks... and these stupid politicians are unable to correct that...

Luckily the computer reminded me of it. When I got home from the pub at around 3 am I checked my mail and thec computer told me the clock had been changed to daylight savings time.

I had no idea about it being time for daylight savings time :)

As I've read somewhere, Daylight-saving was first put-on to save energy, as you mention. Farmers got angry because of cow-milking and crop-harvestin, so they stopped it.
Nowadays it's used because the health-department thinks one more hour of daylight per day is good for the populations health.

Less suiciders? Hmm, people who go to Gothic discos don´t go into sunlight anyway, no matter how long it shines per day ;-)

I happily take losing one hour of sleep in the spring for gaining an hour in the fall. :)

Far from just being good for health, daylight saving is employed for various other reasons to do with productivity, safety (more daylight = less car accidents) and so on. A lot of scientific studies in the UK actually indicated that it would be beneficial for the UK to stay on BST for one whole year and then got to GMT + 2 (i.e. CET) thereafter. Of course, this would mean Greenwich would never be at GMT, but there you go. The only reason this didn't happen was down to Scottish farmers and civilians complaining, and the Tories not wanting to lose their few Scottish seats.

Of course, for me in Iceland, it doesn't really make any difference. We keep to GMT all year round; in the winter, we have almost total darkness, and in the summer, 24/7 daylight, so we don't need to change the clocks! :)

...hmm, interesting... that scientific studies i have read told a completely other story... they said it won't have such a positive impact on your health, just a kind of illusion that the day seems longer... and that the stress changing from summer- to wintertime and vice-versa would completely negate it. now it's the question who paid the scientists for their studies to arse us all ?
btw. i am allergic to direct sunlight more the whole thing does me no good at all
