Access Virus (Tom ?)

Hi Tom,

I know that, between you gears, you've got a Virus.
What model is it?
Do you feel comfortable with it?
Are you using pre-made patches or you make your own?

If it's one of the rack versions, is it in any way "uncomfortable" to edit it, without all the nice knobs of the other versions?

Please, this is crucial for me

For what i know, he uses his JD800.

Anyway, i'll go for the Indigo2 Redback as soon as i can.

I know he bought an Access VirusB some year ago. Maybe he's sold it again, but he *has* had one. He imported it from Germany.

sorry for the late reply..did not watch this space much often

Anyway...
I am using the VIRUS A (first version) the machine is very easy to use and to programm, even if it is kind of old today the sound is still amazing and it is THE SYNTH in most of my productions !!

I am planning to invest in the VIRUS INDEGIO but i won't sell my old virus!!
The only little problem with the VIRUS A (OS2.

is that the CPU in this machine is a bit old and slow - which is only a problem if you use the TWIN-MODE in Single Sounds to make them big (which def. works) then you probably will run into some problems with the polyphony... But even this can be solved if you use a clever arrangement of your songs

I've got a Virus B

I have to say I like it, but I'not in love with it.
The main bad thing is that you have to scroll through quite a few menus, but if you're fine with that this is not a problem. Compared to the JD800 which has almost one slider/button for all functions, the virus would need at least twice the knobs and buttons it has now.
As for the sound: very smooth, but you can make it scream too, but not the way the JD800 can. The JD800 distortion effect is crazy.
So for leads I prefer the JD, since it got a little more bite generally.

The virus is good for old style analog stuff, like analog pads and basses. Oh, I almost forgot, you can create great bassdrums with it.
This is where the Virus B shines imho. And it has the vocoder which I only tried out once, but it seemed cool.
Arpeggiator is handy at times too.
Effects are ok, but I seldom use them, since I record dry and apply effects later on.
I'm not sure if there is a better VA, but I would like some more stuff to tweak on the synth. Of course, you can use a librarian software, but then I can use a softsynth instead. That's the thing with hardware, you get it because you want to put your hands on it

I already ordered the Virus KC (i need the 5 octave keyboard), and gave away the JD800 (i almost *raped* the one who bought it

). [sorry Marcel, i would have feel like a bastard to sell it to you at that high price].

Anyway, for what i saw, the virus can deliver very complex and interesting sounds beside retro-emulation or bassdrums. The sounds i heard so far left me almost speechless. This is the sound i always wanted. A really "german" sound (wich i like), so i think i'll be ok for a while.

As for better VA, many says Supernova2 is better, others say NordLead3 is better. I spent last saturday playing with both, and i must say there's nothing Virus can't handle. Those 2 machines are less powerful and more expensive.

I think virus only lacks in 2 things: no digital I/O and no expandable waveforms.

While the Virus KC will satisfy my wildest side, i'm also thinking about buying a Yamaha Motif Rack. I heard it's huge. Any hints on that?
