Hey,

sounds like there's a crackle in the right channel at about 0.09 secs...

Could be "Magneto" or something like that, better fix it soon...
Dr.Future - and music will never be the same!

You know, i'm a totally unprofessional dude, so the crack remains where it is.

And seeing how the remix is doing, i'll be making tv-spots remixes very soon.

This one REALLY makes my "Stomp-to-the-beat" right foot spasm uncontrallably!!!

Never heard of the game, though. What was it? Was it any good?

Thanks for your words :)

The game, if I am right, was done by the same team who made Turrican 2.
It was an horizontal scroll shooter, much on the style of r-type, but way cooler.
The music by Chris was *huge*, expecially the final one, played over the credits when the game was completed, was really something special.

The tune i covered is the most simplistic of the ones done by Chris for the game.

Try to download the module from exotica, you won't regret.

cheers.

The Kaiko difference...

Post by Rafael Dyll »

Ok, the facts:

The game was released in 1992, developed by Kaiko, a team of three developers: Frank Matzke (Graphics), Chris Huelsbecck (Sound) and Peter Thierolf (code). Kaiko split/formed from Factor 5 after they left for the US to do SNES games. Massive awards from all magazines in Germany hailed, Apidya being an original (you fly a bee and fight spiders and snails on a meadow and in sewers!!) Megadrive/SNES inspired shoot 'em up that went to show what the Amiga was capable of at the time. Chris released a brilliant soundtrack CD which I bought the very day it released. I think it is sold out since years, but you can get a gold copy from Synsoniq I think. The final credit tune was gigantic. Other games from Kaiko were Gem'X and the (I may be wrong) unreleased Gem'Z and Software Manager. Kaiko went bust mid 90ies and Chris formed his media production company and joined F5 in San Rafael (which oddly enough has my name in it) , doing N64 and Gamecube sounds for Nintendo.

If anyone was interested that is.

Everything except vocal samples, drums/percos and the bass are from the "machine". I opted to keep the bass in vsti to avoid eq work on the machine (very boring task).

At the moment, i've got the flu and i'm home.
If i can find a way to detach myself from Silent Hill 3 i'll start taking a look at the KeyBoard :)

cheers.

Amazing, what you can find on the net:

http://apidya.vg-network.com/

A free PC-version of Apidya!

Cool game! Could use your ultra-cool plastic-club-dance-whatever-the-young-kids-call-it-these-days mix, though ;)

That's the coolest this with the whole song! The crackle-intro!

This one definitly rocks. One of DHS' best remixes, IMHO.

ITALY A Tourists guide -

home of inter milan,
juventus and very very many very good football teams,
home of the coluseum,
home of the roman invasion so technically we may all have come from italy...
home of pizza.....home of a tower of.. (not literally i may add....)
home of the renaisance....
michelangelo,
leonardo...
rafael...et all....
home of the pope...and the church..
and home to the best damn remix of apidya my ears have waggled to in a bloody long time and NOTHING like scooter :-D woooohoooooo!

oh and if we gonna talk crackles my keen ear found a fair few but sod em, they give it character :D

this actually got me thinking.....cos i too own the chris heulsbeck redone album of apidya.....that was pretty much an updated and straight redo with updated instruments.
and what with all the different remixes of many games that had more than 1 tune ie....turrican etc
why has no one come together and done a sorta turrican the remix album?
or apidya the remix album? as a sort of tribute to the game and the composer, mr "i am a god bow at my feet or be damned!" heulsbeck.

cos for those that never played apidya (and please click trauma's lil link u really wont regret it (had that for a bloody long time btw <<<<APIDYA FAN) as i said it really was a good game and definetly deserved the update definetly deserved this kind of remix attention....as does turrican
1 and 2 and 3 i may add (that had a bloody exellent soundtrack 2).

or hell maybe even a competition (id enter....and lose but hey its the participating :-D) its VERY hard to find the entire apidya soundtrack now
u can get snippets at mp3.com if u look up chris though....but its the main tune and the usual sewer level tune (my favorite behind level 1's tune)
just a selection of idea's
and a bit of rambling from your freindly neighbourhood nutball
- lestat : claudia what did i tell you? - claudia - No eating the staff

Kaiko

Post by Jim Power »

Hi there,

just a couple of infos here: Kaiko was founded by Chris Huelsbeck, Frank Matzke and Peter Thierolf. They were not directly related to Factor 5; however, they did work together on "Turrican 3" before Peter left the team and joined Neon (that's why there's a Kaiko logo on the Turrican CD). There's a nice page at http://www.nemmelheim.de/kaiko/ with lotsa infos on their games, including "Apidya", of course - you can even play "Gem'X" online there! :)

Regarding the soundtrack CD - it was reprinted by synSONIQ records in 1997 and is still available from their page (as well as Bjorn Lynne's shop), so it is a "real" CD and no gold copy. BTW: the credits song that was mentioned can also be found on Huelsbeck's "Soundfactory" album as well as the "Blade of Destiny" soundtrack CD by Rudolf Stember. Two "Apidya" tracks (including the level 1 music) were also remade for the "Huelsbeck in the Mix" album by a couple of German DJs.
