John Barry 1933 - 2011

Post by Doddsy »

Was sadened to hear that John Barry had recently passed away. This composer was a big influence on my music and on my soundtrack remixes - notably my Spy Vs Spy (0064 and counting mix)

I think he was one of the best soundtrack composers in his field and I enjoyed his work on the 007 Bond series of films.

Diamonds are forever; composers are not.

Shame to see him go.

One of the most underrated composers, John Barry was capable of making memorable music. He was very prolific and the consistency of his work is remarkable. Not to mention that he covered virtually any genre. Try listening to the surf madness of "Beat Girl", then switch to the cinematic themes (you know, Bond, The Persuaders and all those great tunes) and you'll get a small glimpse of his genius.
In fact, there is more John Barry in trip-hop music than you imagine (some of you probably know what particular remix of a John Barry theme I'm alluding to  )

R.I.P. Mr Barry
