Another problem with April 1st is that I've seen people distributing great news and of course no-one believes them! :)

Well, you could give people a little longer to reply! ;) I like what's there so far, although reckon you could get a decent pop remix out of the rix + backing at around the two-thirds point as well as doing a medly version.

Keep at it! :)

Many congratulations to the both of you! I know what you mean about the 'two weddings' thing, as friends of mine married in France last year and had to do the same thing; mind you, they did the church wedding only an hour after the registry office!

Well, what I was referring to was UK-based only--I guess other countries have their own ideas. As far as I'm concerned, I used to _love_ daylight savings time in the UK, as it meant longer evenings. Of course, living in Iceland, this is now a moot point...

Far from just being good for health, daylight saving is employed for various other reasons to do with productivity, safety (more daylight = less car accidents) and so on. A lot of scientific studies in the UK actually indicated that it would be beneficial for the UK to stay on BST for one whole year...

I guess I'm not the only one finding it suspicious that as soon as Neil mentions its 96% rating on the front page of R64, the mix goes into chart freefall...

For what it's worth, I do think this is a better solution that listing them in date order. At least this way you get the most in-depth comments first, rather than whoever was 'first past the post'. I also agree that people posting stuff for the sake of it will be either less likely to do so now, or ...

The "you're doing a good job" thread

I know how it is when you create public-facing "hobby" Web sites--people often moan about things, but rarely praise (or at least, less often). I know I've been pretty vocal about problems on this site, so I thought I'd start a little thread to state, for the record, that I reckon R64 is a ...

Chris Abbott wrote:it's possible to review a cover without liking the original
I agree. I love TDG's Judge Dredd and Makke's Hammerfist cover, but not the originals... However, even if this sort of thing isn't the case, a good reviewer should be able to write objectively rather than just subjectively...

Just a quick warning about this--while this is in some ways a good idea, you may end up with people writing stupidly long reviews just because this will get theirs to the top. Usually, succinct stuff is better on-screen... While I know this would be loads of work, would it be possible at some point ...

LMan--sadly, you're right, although putting them above at least makes them more prominent. I think moderation will have to come into effect, although then the moderators will get some stick from people who reckon their words are amazing... Still, even in its current form, it's good to have the revie...

I think the point is that reviews should be independant of other reviews. Saying "I agree with 'X'" is pointless--you then have to reference the review, and if you agree with him, don't bother to review, or say something different. As for external references, as I said, there's no problem ...

The latter is not a review, it is a discussion... A review must be fully understandable when read out-of-context. I totally agree with this. A review should be a standalone piece of copy that could be posted elsewhere in the C64 remix world and still be understandable. While it could reference infl...

Neil--i agree that you don't need to know the original. For instance, I love TDG's Judge Dredd cover, but had only heard the original years and years ago and had totally forgotten about it (I didn't even recognise it). However, such reviews still need to be constructive. There's little point in sayi...
