Re: The Chipophone

While The Chipophone is a good name for what it does, The Awesomeaphone would be closer to what it is.

There needs to be a picture of this under Awesome in the Oxford English Dictionary.

Re: The shape of the scene 10 years on

If I may wallow in selfcenterness for a while... I'm a happy fellow, and I have a good life, but I rarely jump out of bed on a Wednesday morning yelling "Yes! Another day just like every other!" I won't say I dread routine, but it's not something I thrive on. I know my enthusiasm is nurtured by a se...

Nah, if it had anything to do with The Other Monotron, it would never have been quite finished. Nudge-nudge! ;)

Re: Advice needed on audio hardware

With the UA-25EX, it's all built in to the box so it's all you will need to record, playback and run your MIDI gear. My only complaint on the UA-25 preamps is that they sound a bit cold if you want a closely miced, smooth and jazzy type of voice. I got a lot deeper sounding results with a Behringer...

I like almost any genre, but I prefer it when the choice of genre put a new spin on a tune.

Re: 5 Best Pc games According to you.

Keeping in mind that I've played very few games over the past five years, here's my list.

GTA Vice City
StarCraft (preferably with Brood War expansion)
Grim Fandango
Civilization 3 (haven't played 4)
Half-life (also counting Counter Strike)

Re: Trackers for the PC

I recommend Renoise. Yes, it costs money, but it doesn't cost a lot - especially not when you look at what you get for your money. And there is a demo-version, you can try before buy. I've done all my music in Renoise between 2002-2008.

Re: Mic + preamp question

You might actually have been right about getting a more expensive preamp. When I yanked the gain up I got a much better sound - flawed a bit with hum and white noise from the noisy old Behringer. The Yamaha might have a much higher gain by default. I think I definitely need to venture into the world...

Re: Mic + preamp question

Not a dumb question, since I wasn't specific about it, but no - it's a dynamic mic.

It's one of these:

Re: Mic + preamp question

My next investment will probably be a stand alone mic preamp, but before I do that I want to learn more about what to look for. The problem I'm having with the AKG 190 mic is probably less related to Behringers preamp per se. I think there must be some other technical snag, because I don't get that ...
