Not that I'm familiar with setting up these kinds of forums, but wouldn't it be enough to just change the names of the input fields on the registration page? I.e. <input type="text" name="username" blah blah> becomes <input type="text" name="yourusernamedamnit"...

If you need an opensource content management system, there's only one: ModX (http://modxcms.com). I've used it on quite a lot of websites and it's just awesome. It's 100% customizable (is that a word?). PHP and SQL required.
