I would say, in terms of jamming, latency must not exceed 10 milliseconds. And if this is not a constant latency it must be impossible to play to/intolerable to listen to :) That's what I thought too, but somehow that can be done pretty nicely with 100ms. It's not perfect, but it's useful and prett...

What does realtime mean? As long as you use the internet you have to live with delays in any case. In this case realtime means that you can actually play together at the same time, and that requires latencies of under 100ms to be reasonable. Digital Musician works (I've tested it) and has 2 big adv...

Then what about http://www.digitalmusician.net or I tried hard to look for anything of substance in that site, but all I got was a load of marketing crap about bringing the world together :) But if I understood correctly it works pretty much like the long gone Rocket Network which wasn't realtime. ...

RetroGamer comeback?
I got a letter from Imagine Publishing telling me that they've bought the rights to publish RetroGamer. Too bad they're not bound by the existing subscriptions (although they will give three free issues to previous subscribers as a nice gesture). The first "new RetroGamer" will be out on 8...

Jam together over the Internet
Check out http://www.ejamming.com - it's a cool little software that allows networked playing similar to online gaming. Beta is out for the Mac now and soon for the Windows XP. I tried it with one of the company's PR people that helped me set it up earlier this week, it took some tinkering but event...

I usually manage under 24 tracks with about 12 of 'em in stereo. With live drums or BFD I have 8-9 tracks of drums going to five busses and from that to one single drums bus. Then about 5-6 tracks of guitars, 1-2 of bass, 1-2 for the percussion, some synths etc. With more synth oriented stuff it's a...

Nice one! Just gotta hope that won't break up, I hear they're a bit of a pain to fix and find replacement parts for. I've been thinking about getting some synth just for playing without the computer, now I only have a MIDI controller to play the VSTis with. The new Virus TI keyboard is tempting but ...

I wasn't involved in the production myself although I do know some of the people behind the Star Wreck movie. Now, after seeing the movie, I wish I had been :) The sheer scope of the thing is pretty incredible for something that was done for pretty much nonexistent budget. The final cut of the movie...
