Re: Whats the difference between a remix and a cover version?

I think I'm abit more clearer now on the two after reading these posts. IMO then a cover is a piece of music where the musician doesn't deviate too much from the original arrangement/structure allthough the instruments could be different (think of Tainted love by Marilyn Manson and then by Soft cell...

Whats the difference between a remix and a cover version?

I was reading on Wikipedia about what makes a remix and what makes a cover version. Check them out yourself if you want. Well it got me thinking as to what is the difference between the two? They seem very similiar these days as the early days of remixing was just making extended 12" etc. So ar...

Re: Jean Michel Jarre - World tour 2009-2010??

I saw him live at wembley stadium on the 'chronologie' tour - wouldnt go to see him now, hes ran out of ideas, his music now is dull. I wouldn't say hes run out of ideas as such. It's more of a case of the technology he used in the 70's and 80's is now so much affordable that hes no longer a pionee...

Re: KGB Superspy coming soon!

As promised a link has now been posted at; http://www.box.net/shared/h1tcjga2eq I've gone for a more harder electronic sound for this remix. Still to do.... Add a James Bond style twangy guitar at breakdown section for the main riff-this has been played live during the playback but not recorded, wor...

Thanks for the link this will bring back some memories!!

You know thinking back one of the reasons why I liked listening to the sid chip and still do is its ability to do note slides in the music, my other computer & dare I say it my Speccy just wasn't capable of it! :P

Re: What inspires you to choose a particular SID to remix?

I've always liked C64 music, partly because it has the best 8-bit sound chip and no other home computer sounded like it. Sometimes I'd get a game just for the soundtrack. I also had a PD demo disk for my Amiga called; "The top 100 C64 tunes." this is where I heard the majority of them.

Did that Zombie Nation tune make remixing popular?

I know the C64 and Amiga tunes have always been remixed but I was listening to Kernkrafts Zombie Nations Lazy Jones remix and I was wondering whether from the success of that no1 tune, did it further promote the idea of C64 remixing to a wider audience once musicians became away of where the sample(...

Re: What inspires you to choose a particular SID to remix?

An idea or inspiration for a certain style after listening to a sid tune. Some I'd like to do as they were classics back in my day - Ocean Loader, One Man And His Droid, Thing on a spring etc but most have been remixed heavily so its difficult to add anything new.

My Rolling Thunder remix...

Hi, this is a link to my C64 tune remix of US Golds Rolling Thunder.

Its been partly inspired by the track In The House from the film 28 Days Later.

Enjoy!

*Please note this has now been deleted for space for my other tunes!*

Re: The cost of vintage synths.

Yeah I think the TB303 commands crazy prices these days for a plastic box that has a very dated sound. Though you do get that sequencer and the authentic acid sound! The Sh101 commands a good price too considering it has no patch storage, its monophonic, has 1 VCO and no midi or internal effects tho...

It's ok Robinsonmason no worries, I can see what you mean.
Compared to Outrun I'm suprised Powerdrift hasn't been remixed more often.

Re: 10 Nostalgic non-remixed Game SIDs for Red-Faced Responses

Here are the SIDs: Power Drift - Composer: Dave Lowe (Edit: I heard a remix of this on SubZero's podcast) I must point out that this has already been remixed by me in May 2007. I do agree that some sids get remixed more than others and it would be nice to hear something a little different which is ...

The cost of vintage synths.

I think the cost of vintage synths - pre midi are a bit crazy these days. Sure we have the Prophet V and the Moog commanding a princely sum as they are classics, but these days I'm finding on Ebay, any synth that seems to have the analog and pre-midi tag are becoming overated in terms of cost. Most ...

Re: Advice on which to buy?

At the end of the day it depends what you want to use it for. The Prophecy is a mono synth compared to the other two options so its good for leads and harsh synth lines. I think you could prob get a good enough sound to match the prophecy as well from the microkorgs. Get the Microkorg XL for an allr...
