Re: IMG I Got A Novachord - The Worlds 1st Polyphonic Synth!!
Wow, congratulations d.a.wilson! There's vintage synths and then there's owning a piece of synthesiser history: 120 Years of Electronic Music Thanks.... Absolutely - this is the first vintage instrument I've owned where I actually feel responsible for it's wellbeing! :? It's serial number 346 which...

Re: IMG I Got A Novachord - The Worlds 1st Polyphonic Synth!!
Interestingly enough, Wikipedia claims "By 1976, the first true music synthesizers to offer polyphony had begun to appear, most notably in the form of the Yamaha GX1, CS-50, CS-60 and Yamaha CS-80 and the Oberheim Four-Voice. These early instruments were very complex, heavy, and costly." ...

Novachord 346 - The Worlds 1st Polyphonic Synth from 1939!
After months of planning and tons of research I've become the very proud owner of a 1939 Hammond Novachord - the worlds first polyphonic synth! :o Released in 1939 this beast weighs 500 pounds and contains 163 vacuum tubes - it predates Moogs by 25+ years and yet has separate ADR envelopes on all ke...

Re: Sequential Prophet 2002 Lives Again!
In computer terms, this sounds antiquated... in a positive way! You fancied - by any chance - a white or pink 100% polyester jacket while recording to match the retro ambience feeling? ;-) :) Actually I probably get the "last Laugh" here - everyone has gone PC mad BUT the facts...

Re: Sequential Prophet 2002 Lives Again!
As i said over at spacesynth.net, i really like this song :D and i want more of this good stuff!!! Many thanks... curiously my music has not been as universally liked or disliked as some over the past 20 years - in fact typically reponses to an original or remix may range from a big red smiley to a...

Sequential Prophet 2002 Lives Again!
Hello All, I recently purchased a 25 year old Sequential Prophet 2002 on eBay which I've successfully restored to full working order to add to the studio... and what a lovely beast it is too - despite it's tiny 512K RAM it's got nice crunchy 12 bit DACs into real analog resonant filters with a brill...

Re: Piccy of the Studio...
Man that's a LOT of hardware! Almost looks like a trip into the past :-) Yes - sometimes I feel like a museum curator - I have had to repair a lot of gear over the years - esp. EL backlights! Some of this gear has also been owned by household names and most of it is actually going up in value...

MINIMIG - A working Amiga on a chip!
I suspect some of you already know about this beastie designed by Dennis van Weeren. For those who haven't discovered it yet - it's a complete working Amiga 500 on an FPGA using an SD card to run standard emulator .ADF images driving a VGA monitor with a PC mouse and keyboard. It's been quite a whil...

Re: The Thirteen Greatest Error Messages of All Time
As well as the brilliantly bizarre 'Guru Meditation' my second favourite is from DomainOS on the now ancient (but miles ahead of their time) Apollo Domain workstations: Error 220009: 'unit will not fit thru 25 inch hatch (OS/magtape manager)' ... from the days when your tape backup unit was bigger t...

Hi Ziphoid... the D.O.C. theory sounds plausible - I'm going to interrogate him and see if he speaks the truth...
