Hmm, you might end up having to file a DMCA. It would be handy to know who the aggregator was. In fact, you might be able to find out by uploading a fake video to YouTube with your remix and then seeing who claims copyright.

I sent him a message on facebook. No answer there. Also tried twitter, I think. "His work" can still be found on Spotify, and is probably still for sale on other services...

This is still good advice, since it might tell you who they uploaded their stuff with.

IIRC, filing a DMCA meant having to pay some amount. I don't really care that much, even though it's a pretty douchey thing to do. :nonono:

Hi, guys!
I came across a couple of YouTube accounts with a lot of stuff downloaded from remix64, including Mordi, Firestorm, Slaygon, Peter Clarke and myself among others. All the videos are monetized.
That's not right, is it? What to do?
I can't report it to YouTube 'cause I don't own the rights to the music.

Because of the ads.

As I said, you own the rights to the recording. That should be enough.

Yeah there are a few people putting up remixes from RKO on youtube.
Here is one (Remix music) with ads for my MV remix.
My opinion is if it reaches a wider audience then so be it and at least they spelt my name correctly!

People publishing my remixes on YouTube, that's ok. But monetize those videos, that is not ok. Video Game Music Vault is making a lot of money off others work. I have my own channel with those remixes, and I have not monetized them myself because I don't think it's right.

I have filed copyright claimes on a couple of the videos, and YouTube has removed them. If a channel get's three strikes, as Youtube calls copyright claimes, the channel is closed.

I'm in the same boat and that's a good point raised.
There is one thing that has sparked my interest since reading this post and it's something that we could not foresee in 2000 due to monetized websites appearing now. What happens if someone downloads a tune off RKO puts it on youtube, the video then goes viral for what ever reason and they rake in the cash. Now the original composer and game publisher get knowledge of this so they take the channel to court for copyright infringement but wouldn't they ALSO take the remixer to court as well as it is their track that is the cause of it?

Interesting theory, but since the channel owner has broken the terms of use at RKO, I guess it's nothing to worry about on our behalf. Furthermore, I reckon we have the composer, at least, on our side here.

Video Game music Vault has over a thousand videos, all of them monetized, and he hasn't made one of the tunes himself.

I'm actually not too bothered with youtube videos containing music I've made, since it helps getting people to discover it. Even if they make some amount of money on it, It's fine with me. I can't see any ads in the videos linked above here (maybe because of AdBlock?).
