Maybe a tad on the plinky side (MA3 Yamaha chipset), but otherwise fine.

Just tested Wizball Game Over on my Samsung SGH-X450, and it sounds great! The volume is a little low compared to my other ringtones, though. Could you make it louder, or is that a compatibility problem across different phones?

... or it might just be that Samsung phones (with Yamaha chips) tend to play MIDI quieter than MMF (the preferred format).

MMF files are in the pipeline. And we can make them sound better than MIDI by having SID samples, too.

Generally you've got the three big formats: MMF, CMX and SP-MIDI/MIDI.

MMF allows you to put WAV files in as well, to varying degrees.

Where it gets interesting is that some phones now have RMF and XMF support, which allows downloadable soundsets to add to your SP-MIDI. It's an exciting development but kind of hampered by the fact that the uptake is quite small at the moment: less than 10 phones in the wild support XMF, though the standard has been ratified by 3GPP so maybe this will change. It's Beatnik against Yamaha, essentially.

There's the odd other custom format here and there: the other major one is CMX, which tends to appear in CDMA phones that run "BREW" (a kind of alternative to Java). Both CMX and SMAF phones accept MIDI files as-is though, so a lot of the time doing the extra work is regarded as "optional". I, however, intend to use the extra facilities when time allows and my financial life has stopped sucking.

The sample worked perfectly on my Moto V220.. Except it strangely went a bit odd during the last second, it kinda faded weirdly!

Could be that the instrument used has an unnaturally fast decay time on the V220... Is it a different sound to the preview from my Moto V525?
