Is this original work or sampled from scene??

Talk freely about the scene, the world of remixing, or anything off-topic unsuitable for the "Fun Forum".

Is this original work or sampled from scene??

Post by Analog-X64 »

I dont know about the U.K. but here in North America they have been airing these TV Commercials for an Insurance Company called Geico.

This particular TV Commercial caught my attention. The main melody in the song sounds very Sceneish (not sure if thats a real word) sounding and got me thinking if its an Original Piece or was some of it sampled or used from a Demo Song or something.

The Song is called "Remind me" by Royksopp

Here is a link to the Commerical on YouTube

Apropos. I remember seing a music video on ( MTV) a couple of years ago. It might have been that band. It was full of animated vector/3d graphics about human life, mechanical processes and the like. Perhaps an airport, a building, a power plant... Anyone remember the name and if it was Royksopp? Sry about sidetracking...

Here is the version used in the TV Commerical, which is supposed to
be the Original Version. The other Link posted by XO is a remix done by
someone else.

The one XO linked to is the original version. Royksopp (Røyksopp - not really a word, just two words put together that would translate to something like smoke/smoked/smoking mushroom) are two guys from Tromsø, Norway. They moved to Bergen (my city) because of the music community we got here, and that's when they got their big breakthrough.

They have been using SID-stash in other mixes, but as far as I know only things they have composed themselves.

The vocal in Remind Me is Erlend Øye from Kings of Convenience.

I have posted a link (viewtopic.php?t=4194) on this forum earlier to a remix they did for some japanese band (Eri Nobuchika - Sing A Song). Heavily SIDish and really cool.

Excellent info k_rostoen thank you. Its just one of those tunes that caught my ear.

I don't particularly sit there and watch Television ads, but the music caught my attention.

Many great artists are not Marketed here in North America, but thanks to the internet I can always discover them. :)

Yeah, he's quite pleasant listening to.

However, my favourite of the Bergen-based bands has to be Ralph Myerz & the Jack Herren Band. Great electronica with lots of energy. I've never seen them live, but I've been told that on the scene they are totally amazing.
