C64 Sounds in modern electronic music!!

Post by tom »

Hi guys,

you have to listen to this tune:

http://www.airbase-media.com/666/Kiss_The_Frog.mp3

<img src="http://www.xample-music.com/ambra_red.gif">

It's not done by myself , i just put this Song on my server because it's easier to keep the link alive
The girl is called AMBRA RED and this group comes from Scandinavia (as far as i know) she is signed to
inception records ( as far as i know, too)

http://www.inception-records.com

They used loads of C64-SOUNDS in the tune and i must confess that i love it !!!
A really catchy hookline plus ultra-retro bitcrush vocals on top, for me a hit!
Hopefully they plan to release it in germany as well, i am gonna buy it for sure 'cos i am a big fan of such music... a kind of CONSOLE style :)

What do you think ??

cheers

I guess it all depends on how it's done really. This one was done in a pretty nice way I think. I think it all boils down to ballance. Don't over do it, don't get too extravagant and weird. Then it works.

I'm not as excited about this song as you, tom, but there's nothing "wrong" with it, and the c64 touches work good. :)

I have heard a tunes with C64 sounds in it, i can't remember what the group was called ;/
It sounded really great :)

How come groups use C64 sounds in theire music now? have they heard our remixes and felt that the C64 is comming back in a way and wants to show what the C64 is really usefull? :)

If the vocals were sung by a male singer and also used an auto-tuner plug-in to de-tune it, this would sound like "Eiffel 65" on SID-fever ;-)

The "lyrics" are too much repeating and I cannot understand what she sings in the parts that do not repeat, making the track more average.

Man, this is REALLY very C64ish!!!
The drums are a real pleasure, put me 20 years back in time!!! :P
It's good, but the melody is not the greatest. Should have been quality-prooved by Rob, Martin or the Remix64-Scene...

Do you know the fairytale "THE KING OF FROGS"?
( is that really the english title? :? )
that's what it's all about in her lyrics.....

Well, i guess i am the only one who loves it and who would spend money on the CD.

Where's <b>Mr.Abott</b> when his HELP is needed
Anyway, it's such a good work and i love it because it's probably done in a style that i always wanted to do , but more CLUB-MUSIC Elements should have been in this Song... ah well....

Here in germany it's very popular to use "RETRO-SOUNDS" in modern dance-music, for example <b>"TOMCRAFT -LONELINESS"</b>
there's a part in it which reminds me of the intro from ROB HUBBARDS-SANXION , it's not sampled or something like this but i would say very inspired  <br><br>
A famous man once said :<b>
"Inspired by" is a perfectly legal thing... where
would Rob have been without it? "</b>

anyway i love TOMCRAFT's TOP 10 HIT - Loneliness ...

Did you ever hear "(only love can) Set you free" by N-Trance ?
This is much older (1995) and the original version has some synth-part in it that was C64-RETROish in a modern way, reminding me of Stefan Hartwig´s SID "Illgen" (the part that starts at 3:05 in the SID, but much slower).
When I heard this on N-Joy radio back in 1995, I thought: "C64 on the radio? Did they play a SID?".

sometimes... but remember
'We meet Iggy Pop and David Bowie'
'At Düsseldorf City...TRANSss EUROPAaaa EXPRESSssss'
from 'Kraftwerk'.... :P

well, düsseldorf is not the biggiest but many electronic bands
came from there like, Die Krupps, Tommi Stumpf (Massaker  )
fehlfarben, daf, pyrolator, Kraftwerk, NEU!, La Düsseldorf,
Mouse On Mars, YAMO (ex-Kraftwerk Wolfgang Flür),
Armageddon Dildos and der plan... hope i got all...

but sadly, i'm leaving düsseldorf by april and heading for dortmund...
it will be very hard for 'cause i had very good time in düsseldorf and
esp. a very good youth(if you like independent/New Wave music) ....
