im moving in the opposite direction in the last 1-2 years.
pretty much being forced of adjusting every bit of a buzz machine before, now as i have access to VST i find myself using presets much more often while just adjusting some buttons here and there.

http://kunz.corrupt.ch/home offers some very good free VST's especially the tal-noisemaker for some weird fun or basslines

i should not have released the guitar slinger remake, "being excited about it" turned to "blargh, you did it crappy overall" in quite a short time after releasing
though i already have a pretty big wall to climb before i make a song public so the real bad ones are gladly rarely seen on the internet ...

I'm still working with jeskola buzz (a freeware community supported trackerstyle synthesizer with quite some power in it) and some soundforge support if it comes to recording. i have no other hardware besides my 2 guitars and the multi-effect for them.
