Remixer of the Year (ROTY) 2025 Voting Closes Jan 18th

05/01/2026

This is a friendly reminder that voting for the Remixer of the Year (ROTY) 2025 awards closes on Sunday, January 18, 2026. If you haven't done so, yet, you have until then to vote for your favorite remixes and remixers.

And if you can't remember all the wonderful remixes that were released in 2025, listen to snippets from each of them in the Remix News episodes that were released monthly. (November and December episodes are coming shortly, too.) That's roughly 3+ hours of music to get through, but much less than listening to all the releases in their entirety.

Remember to enter a vote for each of the remixes and remixers you want to nominate in a given category, not just one! Every single nomination will count towards the final totals.

Have fun voting!

Today Matt Gray has delivered a Christmas treat for us: a brand‑new preview track from his upcoming Reformation 5 album. This latest release is an epic re‑imagining of Rob Hubbard’s legendary Commando.
Just a couple of weeks earlier, Gray unveiled the album’s first preview, a powerful remix of Martin Galway’s Arkanoid. If you missed that one, it’s definitely worth a listen.
Best of all, both tracks are available to stream and download on Bandcamp. Links below — turn up the volume and enjoy!

Uncle Art A Temporal Shift

A Temporal Shift

by Uncle Art

'Uncle Art' is the moniker that used to just be Dave Lowe, a musician and programmer composing and converting computer game music in the 80s and 90s for various platforms and for over 70 game titles. These days he is joined by his daughter Holly Jazz Lowe and the two of them work together as musicians, composers and producers. When Holly noticed how much love there is on the internet for the retrogaming days, she wondered whether there might be enough interest in them remaking her dad's original gaming music. One of Dave's most famous pieces of gaming music was for Frontier: Elite 2 with John Williams / Jerry Goldsmith esque thundering classical themes. What would this sound like with a real orchestra as it was originally imagined for, instead of the plucky but limited little Amiga PAULA chip?!

They crowdfunded the project on Kickstarter to see if there was enough interest and raised over £35,000 to make the album. This album would be called 'A Temporal Shift' containing re-recorded, re-interpreted and re-arranged fresh new studio recordings of Dave's best loved gaming compositions. These recordings are contemporary and exciting, a fusion of electronic music, samples and real and very accomplished musicians ship and use of live instruments. The album also includes Dave's two Frontier themes recorded by a 50 piece orchestra (the Chamber Orchestra Of London) at Abbey Road studios!

Listening Recommendation

Tusker (Into the Heart of Darkness ft. Anna Black)

Arranged by K8-bit

Generally, folks take a SID and do something with it and that is a SID remix as a funny definition says. In the case of KateZ, it changes as take a SID and do something DIFFERENT with it. Adding elements of movie score-style complexity and a heavy dose of sound design, listening to her tracks give you a different experience. If you're open for that or not - you decide. Being an explorer has nothing to do with popularity. It is about breaking the barrier. It's something that has been always here in the C64 scene. This track oozes that message so this attitude is true to the spirit that keeps everyone coming back. Back to the remix itself, it reminds me a little of old (not necessarily fairy) tales released on phono, telling a story pretty well without using the eyes, stimulatiing the imagination. I miss those times. Thanks for the time travel! I really appreciate the way this 'tale' is presented.

Fist II (band in the rain - new mixdown)

Arranged by Traxer

Comparing the new mixdown to the old version, the rain effect has not effectively been turned down at all. In fact, it even sounds more present, with more treble in it.

The rain really should be barely audible after the intro, it totally distracts from the outstanding far eastern arrangement.

 Apidya (End Credits)

Arranged by Tim Forsyth

I love the twist on the original track. The original was and still is one of my all time Amiga tracks, and this really does it justice. This track has taken all the key elements of the original and remixed them into a smoth but incredibly catchy track. Very well done!!! if your up for a challenge Id love to hear a version of this thats more a remake in this style, but like for like, I know that would be a good mix! 😊
