Ahhh.. well you see ST-01:Snare2 was sampled from the infamous Linn Drum with a touch of reverb - it was used on just about every pop song in the 80's - so your choice of Snare was popular for a good reason

ST-01: Snare1 - it's a bass drum - the unbelievable truth!!
:o OK Now I'm now totally blown away - I had a tipoff from a chap calling himself Dr_Mabuse about the original source of ST-01:Snare1 that it was derived from a bass kick on the Kawai R100 drum machine! After finding the Kawai R100 sample set on the net and then very carefully playing the samples an...

Help! Can someone help identify this old module test mix...
Hello... I've always liked this old mod but I've no idea what it is - I remember copying it off a friends Amiga front cover disk circa 1990 - can someone put me out of my misery and identify who wrote this module and where it was used. As far as I know the title is Sad Song not to be mistaken for an...

Re: Project ST-01 : 44/126 Original Synth Presets Identified
Hi Sonic, I did wonder about the 60 - I will have to cross compare the sample names with the factory presets listed in the manual. Although the 60 and 106 have NVRAM presets they don't display preset names - only numbers unlike the alpha/MKS50, Jupiter-8, JX-8/10 and Super JX. There is no doubting t...

Re: Project ST-01 : 44/126 Original Synth Presets Identified
Hi, I had thought of doing something like that but I'm a tad concerned the whole project is going to snowball. That said - we could limit ourselves to just songs from the ST-01/Ultimate Soundtracker disks. As for a DS remake of Amegas - sounds interesting but before remaking the music with high qual...

Re: Project ST-01
Hi M.A.F.... Shame on you for not knowing what ST-01 is... go to the back of the class  As Komet64 says ST-01 was the :) FIRST :) and by far most celibrated official instrument/sample disk for use with Sound Tracker on the Amiga. It was bundled with the :) FIRST :) Soundtracker package devised...

Project ST-01 : 44/126 Original Synth Presets Identified
Here is a quick update on 99% positive identified ST-01 (46/126) sample sources prior to http://www.st-01.com going online. I have leads for another 30 or so, I'm really struggling with the percussion and there is definitely a missing synth. ST-01 Sample: Source Synth: Source Preset & Name: ===...

Are you Sure about Korg Poly-800
Hello all... Now we're making good progress homing in on the synths used to make ST-01 I keep finding myself coming back to the Korg Poly-800 as the problem is that several seem to think some of it's presets were used and yet after very carefully listening to the factory set several times now I not ...

FM Based samples in ST-01
... OK there's now a fair amount of evidence that the Yamaha 4OP FM Synth used as a source for several of the ST-01 samples is the DX-21 which is known for it's superb bass patches - Solid Bass (later known as Lately Bass) is found on a HUGE number of dance tracks. Shame the percussion wasn't Roland...

Re: Project ST-01
Hi Marcel, Many thanks for your suggestions - it's interesting to see that at least 80% tally with my conclusions over the last few days. I have a spreadsheet which is rapidly filling up with information - it's this data which will become the basis for our website. I really need to get the site up a...

Re: Project ST-01
After spending far too long downloading old Yamaha manuals and comparing patch names with the ST-01 names I've come to the conclusion that my original guess that one of the sources was Yamaha DX11 is wrong. The DX11 came out in 1988 and the ST-01 sample set was released in June 1987 - D'oh! I...
