REVIEW BY Xorcerer (22/12/2009)

Hubbard's tunes are probably the most popular and recognized in the "8-bit" community. This guy has really set an all-time high standard for gametunes. And he constantly pushed the audio coding up to it's limits, creating new effects which others mimicked and based upon.
This is why it is very hard to catch up to his brilliant spirit (even though hard technology is now far beyond dreams of the past). It is also very hard NOT to loose this spirit in flood of new technical tricks.
Simplicity, power, pride - this is what it takes to take Hubbard's tunes beyond original blipping 3-channels.
This Commando rmx is even better than IK+, to me both are just filled with the right energy up to the limits.
There might be a little better synth orchestra - but still this qualifies for the best remix of 2009.

REVIEW BY LaLa (17/12/2009)

Wow. This is quite a tour de force!

In style it reminds me of Jesper Kyd's and Richard Jacques' symphonic-electronic game soundtracks, and it's absolutely brilliant at that. It has a great variety of moods all interwoven so that it actually tells a story.

So, the arrangement is simply brilliant, but it also brings a very professional sounding virtual orchestra to the table coupled with some well-placed electronic sounds and drums.

I really look forward to hearing this remix as-is performed by a real orchestra at a game music festival!

Wow.. It's beat Rastan as the greatest track of all time on RKO.. quite a feat.

What an amazing tune to listen to, very much reminds me of the Unreal Tournament tracks.

Firestorm, you have created a track which sounds so amazingly professional it really is no wonder it's hit number one.

I very much look forward to similar remixes from you in future.. Well done.

There needs to be a new smiley made for this track.

This is great! The effort alone is worth the red face. You obviously know what you're doing, e.g. the winds/strings alternation, the placement of the string runs, and stuff such as the breakbeat begins halfway into the "chorus"around 2:29. Most people would have run it from 2:24. Things like that's cool as hell!

Btw: Eftos is having his period

Danceaway shouts: This track is worthy of taking the no. 1 spot from the excellent Rastan remix by Glen, Fantastic, I emailed the track to Rob Hubbard and he replied saying its great and one of the best, Congratz Firestorm......

vassago shouts: Omg! Was so stunned I forgot to vote!
madfiddler shouts: Simply awesome! WELL DONE!
sumppi shouts: He's a professional and you can hear it. Great stuff, even if the faster parts don't always really fit in IMHO.
ryrynz shouts: Done in a very epic movie like style, with obvious Unreal Tournament style instruments. Best remix of the year! What a treat!
schlicky shouts: Just friggin awesome!
mika shouts: This re-interpretation of commando's SID is very original and quite a rollercoaster ride. I just promoted it to my shortlist of favorite C64 remixes
Amok shouts: I always wondered if Firestorm will release this absolutely awesome piece of art. He did. Definately Remix of the Year 2009!!!
infamous shouts: Absolutely amazing tune, been waiting for a while for this to be put up here. Hans zimmer would cry if he heard this.. Sheer tears of joy.
alpi shouts: Awesome arrangement and brilliant-sounding, thumbs up *cheers
SarahKreuz shouts: Good track. Doesn`t kick me like all the other listeners - but I guess that`s just me.

Gothmog shouts: Woha! O_O RESPECT!!!!
bosone shouts: Perfect for an hollywood movie!!!!!!!! Absolutely great!!
nicodaemus shouts: It is a bit too much at the beginning but about half-way to the end I ended up loving it. Good for you and me as well, I guess. :D
chabee shouts: Great!!!
Melaure shouts: Excellent
aricz shouts: Technically outstanding. You loved 'The Rock' too huh?
C64.COM shouts: Yeah, it's really THAT good!
vili shouts: Reminds me The Rock, too. Combined with Batman Begins.
mattie shouts: Very cinematic! When I listened to this I was reminded of Time Crisis or The Rock. Love it.
hornza shouts: Absolutely awesome, great arrangement and fantastic use of the instruments.
fnordpojk shouts: Astoundingly massive. I for one would like to see a Firestorm / Glyn R Brown collab!
datucker shouts: Great tune!
Patosz shouts: Keep it going!
romeo_knight shouts: This is truly amazing and one of the best orchestral remixes here ever but I can't give a red one because there is missing too much of the original Commando track. Less cinematic FX and more melody would have made it.
DJBase shouts: Very nice Remix!
ZaPenguin shouts: I can't fault the technical execution one bit, but does have a tendency to veer into Trans-Siberian Movie Trailer Orchestra territory a bit too often for its own good.
mfe shouts: There's perhaps just a couple of samples that are just a bit flat and lifeless, but given the brilliance of the rest of the mix, how can this not get a red face? Bravo!
Eftos shouts: Problem: this 'remixer' has no clue about music. Plain chant in a simple, boring zero-adding poor pseudo orchestral sound. Awful to the max. A wast of time
Dumper shouts: Eftos, at least he doesn't copy other peoples tunes like you do. Great Remix.
Satanarchist shouts: Eftos the sid and drums killer talking about Firestorm being clueless.. Eftos remixes are so bad they get deleted from RKO!
Lewrax shouts: Fascinating......
inqisit0r shouts: Stuff it. Ill give it an outstanding. What makes it good seriously outweighs its imperfections. (eg, the transition to guitar at 3:16 is great. But thats the end of the track. The rest after 4:29 is just "following the rules" with a lacking end section)
NecroPolo shouts: Although I like IK+ remix better and orchestra is not for me, objectively, I admit that this is excellence itself and a perfect nominee for the all-times #1. BTW, greetings to Suckho ;) Eftos: you must be kidding...
xgener8or shouts: If Commando was made into a film by Jerry Bruckheimer, this would be the main title :) Hans Zimmer style, never thought this old dog could be remixed in a Zimmer-style so well :)
Twinbee shouts: Wow, Just wow....
red_devil shouts: Yes! This is good stuff! Badly influenced by Hans Zimmer (Gladiator & The Rock) but that is not a bad thing. Perfect arranged!
Flyingsaucer shouts: I like it so much wonderful old time.
Andersson shouts: I would sell my firstborn to see a live version of this :D
prowler shouts: Not really my cup of tea - but very good work indeed so an orange face it is!
schallmauer shouts: Great Effort... But artificial orchestra just sounds artificial. And its way too long
vurtx shouts: Its brilliant stuff but a lot of the commando melody is missing and its also a touch too fast.
cyphax shouts: Wow, technically outstanding. Sounds wonderful, I definitely hope to hear more remixes like this.
Gregory Atlas shouts: To much orchestra and not really giving a feeling back to the old sid.
CharlieC shouts: Slowing down the tempo just a notch, this would be so much better. Too stressfull.
Totta shouts: Someone's been listening to the Soundtrack from The Rock by Hans Zimmer. Extremely well done! You should send this to Zimmer.
Fozzee69 shouts: This is the best remix so far! Sounds like so many different film scores including James bond, Leon the professtional and many more! Love it!
