The History of C64 Remixes – Part One – The 1980s
In this look back at the history of the Commodore 64 remix and the origins of how far the scene has developed, Warren Pilkington (Waz) looks back at the 1980s, and how the synthesizer brought along the first commercially available remixes, along with the fact that Commodore 64 musicians themselves would often do a cover or a remix of a game theme or demo theme too, adding to the origins. Take it away Waz!
Remembered & Remastered Volume 2: Richard Joseph
Prior to writing music for the games industry Richard was an active musician/singer. He joined the the prog rock group CMU
on their second album before joining Jazz funk band Shakatak. He also released a solo single for EMI. It wasn't til 1986 when he replied to an advert from Palace Software seeking a musician for their games in the now defunct Melody Maker
.
I’d just spent a year composing about 100 tunes on a Yamaha CX5 music computer (including the ‘famous’ Robocod one), and had tinkered with a Spectrum so it wasn’t that hard to convince Palace.
Sadly Richard passed away in March 2007 and through the eyes of the remixer we remember him and his work on both the C64 and the Amiga home computers and remember him
Remix64 Remixer Of The Year 2011 awarded
The Remixer Of The Year awards were presented for the 10th time in 2011, at the ROTY Awards show hosted by SceneSat staff and guests at the crowded SceneSat headquarters. The first part of the show presented a rundown of the year 2011, recaping scene happenings and playing top rated tracks of each month. The actual award show started at roughly 22:35.
The first award Best Newcomer 2011

Hazel won Best Veteran 2011
, which was personally handed over by Makke, who was 2006s best veteran.

for their collaboration on Lotus 3
.
The price for Best c64 Remix
was awarded to Warhawk (Halcón de la guerra mix)
by scene veteran N-JOY. The award was presented by Andreas Wallström of c64.com. It should be noted that Kate Z. would have actually won this category with her Tusker remix, if the votes for both versions (vocal / non vocal) had been combined.
Two Lifetime Achievement
awards were awarded to Jan Lund Thomsen and Slaygon for their relentless service to the scene.
The prime price, Remixer Of The Year
, was won by Rune-Bertil's and presented by none other than o2, who was Remix64's very first Remixer Of The Year, ten years ago in 2001.

An Interview with Infamous

An Interview with Søren "Jeff" Lund
by LMan
Jeff mastered the SID chip like few others. The early 90s, a time when many people abandoned the c64, Jeff just kicked off. He released impressive SID works for various demos and groups. The best thing about it: he is still very active in the c64 scene: making music, and even coding his own SID editor.

An Interview with Kingfisher
by Neil Carr
Kingfisher is the composer for Triad. Probably the biggest C64 cracking/demo group ever on the C64. They created some noise back in the good old days and they are still alive and kicking today.
